Honey -- Both diamonds fall within both the AGS Ideal and GIA Excellent ranges on the Holloway Cut Advisor and both score under 2, which is desirable, and as follows ...

Light Return - Excellent
Fire - Excellent
Scintillation - Excellent
Spread or Diameter for weight - Very Good

This being said, either diamond is a beautiful choice, however, in my opinion, I would go for the .80 E/VS1 and not just because it is bigger.

I like it better because it is not as deep as the 0.77 D/VS1 and it has a slightly larger table.

Apart from that, they seem pretty much on par to me ... Both are AGS graded Ideals and excellent color and clarity combos, therefore, no worries in that regard either.

Are you able to see them in person? If so, the winner may be the one who shows the most "personality" ... I hope this helps!

They both look good, did you particularly want a D or E colour? I just mention it as you could drop the colour if you wished and still have a very white diamond, but this is a preference! Either are very well cut.

Thanks guys - I was thinking the D VS1 depth was a touch over what I prefer, but that D is pulling at my heart strings. I know it''s totally overkill but I would so love it, and the price difference is not that much. That said, I know I won''t be able to tell the difference between a D and E, so I think I will go with the E, just for depth / table reasons.

I must be very colour sensitive though, four times now I have had different colour stones in front of me, D E and F and I have picked the F every time. Although it doesn''t look yellow at all, it just doesn''t look as crisp. So that has sort of turned me off going for an F. I know it will look just as gorgeous set, but I figure if the D/E fall into budget, then why not!

Ok, the D is a little deeper than the E, but it is actually nothing to worry about! If you love the idea of a D and as you mention, you would love it so, then maybe that is the one to go for!!

Oh I''m sorry honey ... I didn''t intend to dissuade you from the D. They both score well on the Holloway Cut Advisor, therefore, it''s pretty much an even playing field. You would be safe to go with either one. They should both be beautiful. I was just sharing what my personal choice would be. I consider myself really color conscious, therefore, I completely understand your D preference. I have more difficulties discerning presence of color b/n D and E, however, I do see the difference b/n E and F and F and G etc.

Go with what your gut is telling you ... If you are able to obtain Idealscope images, maybe we can take a peek at those and see if there is a difference in light performance b/n the two and if one is a marginal "winner" over the other in that regard??

They are both great stones. I would go for the D if that is what appeals to you the most. I have an E and like you couldn''t tell it apart from the D but I could see the difference from the F. I picked the E because it had better clarity.

I can''t wait to see your finished ring.

If you would so love to have a D and would cherish the diamond especially because it is a D, then I think you need to give this one serious consideration!

Thanks so much everyone! Sparkalicious - please don''t apologise, I didn''t think that at all. I post questions because I truly value your opinions, even if I prefer to hear another answer sometimes

. I really do appreciate the time members put into helping others.

Well tonight my man and I are sitting down and making a final decision on the stone. I will let you all know what I decide. A bit nervous, just want to organise it, but by Mum is staying with us for a couple of days and it''s still all a secret so we need to wait until we have all gone to bed. I have the paperwork stuffed into my top draw! I am sure it''s burning a hole through it.
