Hi,

I am a huge fan of Pricescope, you all have soooo much knowledge about Diamonds and I am still learning so much!

I am in the process of upgrading my diamond from a 1.05ct F Si2 to a 1.40-1.50+ RB. I know, not a huge change in size but it is what I can afford.

I have narrowed my search down to a couple of RB's. Please let me know which one you think I should choose?

1.) 1.44 Round Brilliant Cut Diamond
Color: H
Clarity: SI2
Cut: Very Good
Certificate: GIA

More Details:
Depth%: 62.1%
Table%: 55%
Crown Angle: 34.5
Pavillion Angle: 41.0
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Girdle: Thin to Medium
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 7.20x7.25x4.49mm

2.) 1.54 Round Brilliant Cut Diamond
Carat Weight: 1.54ct
Color: H
Clarity: SI2
Cut: Excellent
Certificate: GIA

More Details:
Depth%: 62.3%
Table%: 57%
Crown Angle: 35
Pavillion Angle:41.2
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick
Culet:
Fluorescence: Medium
Measurements: 7.35x7.40x4.60mm

1.44ct scores a 1.9 on HCA and the 1.54ct scores a 3.7 very good on HCA.

My concern is that I would love the 1.54ct because its bigger! But it has blue fluoresence which I am not to informed about. However my original F color diamond is very white and I am not sure if I will be used to an H color. Perhaps the medium blue fluoresense will assist the diamond to look more white face up, which is all I would need since it will be in a halo setting.

Please help! Thank you :)

IMO neither are good options by the numbers. The HCA only applies for stones with at least very good symmetry, so the potential performance of the 1.44 is suspect. The angle combo for the 1.54 is on the steep side and may show visible leakage.

Thank you for your help!

Ya I was a bit confused about the 1.44ct getting a high score on HCA.

If you can see the stones in person before committing to the purchase, compare them with known good performers. See if you can tell the difference and if it bothers you. If you are buying blind without images I think there are safer and better options.

I have attached the GIA report.

Please let me know what you think!

Nothing wrong with the numbers... are you buying in-person, and can you see the stone, see what your eyes think? If not can you get more info - scan, pics, professional review? GIA averages around eight sections of stone, then rounds, we don't know what sorts of ranges went into the numbers on the report or how much they are rounded, and how that impacts look and light return.

Needs to be checked re. eyeclean to your specifications whatever they are (clean from 6"? 12"? from face-up only?) - if you want clean from the sides at close range you're going to have to go up in clarity unless you have particularly poor vision.

Thanks for your help!

The stone will ultimately be set in a round halo setting. But I will ask the jeweller to send me an actual photo of the diamond as well to get a better idea

Ok so I found out that the 1.40ct H Si2 is not eyeclean.

I found another, what do you guys think of this one?

I have attached the GIA report

It is a G Colour 1.50 Si2 RB
