Hello, been lurking here for some time, and registered today in hopes of receiving some advice. Based on the information available, which one of these diamonds would be best (in terms of bang for your buck, and in terms of least noticeable deficiencies)? Neither my gf or I have extremely discerning eyes, so our goal is to maximize top (face) surface area within our budget so it will look nice in the setting we chose. Each are GIA certs.

Thanks in advance!

Now way to tell a princess cut performance from these numbers, but these stone are way off square. Also, numbers for #2 are wrong, something is not right there.

Thanks for the reply- I posted a link to each stone... is that helpful? Also, what do you mean by "the numbers are wrong"?

Also, I know they are not square, but to be honest with you, neither my gf nor I are able to definitevly discern the rectangular shape until about a 1.09+ l/r ratio.

Depth % is always depth divided by the Smallest face-up dimension. Weird that GIA make that mistake.

Strange error by GIA. If the measurements are right, the depth should be 69.6%. If the depth is correct, then there is a typo in the measurements.

nkx1, keep in mind that though neither you nor your gf can see the rectangular shape that well, others that she shows the ring to may be able to see. Is their opinion going to be important to her? The other consideration is that some settings can emphasize the elongated shape, so even if you don't see it in the loose stone, you might in the setting.

As far as the diamonds, if you wish to purchase online, I would recommend looking at vendors that can supply photos and ASET images, which BN does not do. This will allow you to guarantee a good stone and not just roll the dice.

How you want to mount the stone will also have an effect. Off square will be very obvious if you mount it in kite style.

Jet and Stone cold, thanks for the replies. Here's the setting we're getting. What are your thoughts as far as whether it will look too rectangular?

I could be wrong, but I doubt many peope other than diamond experts would immediately notice a 1.08 L/R ratio when she is showing the ring to others. A very good point, though; hadn't thought much about that. A <8% discrepancy for diamond 1 is fairly small.

I ended up going with diamond 1. If it looks like crap, I can return it. It seems like a decent bargain...

Here is the setting

Just a comment. On your first picture, the top of the diamond is tilted several degrees. Not sure if that is just a bad picture, or what is really happening. If so I would questions whether or not you will be happy with it. It was the first thing that struck me when looking at the ring.

With.

Maybe this will show what I am trying to say better.

The ring in the pic is from the Robbins Bros website. Hopefully the actual one I get wont be tilted! It''s Scott Kay, so hopefully the quality wont be too crappy.
