which pendant design?

I am making a pendant with the stone from my original e-ring and the stones from a journey pendant. It is 1.68 MRB. The two designs I am considering are leaving the journey pendant as is and adding the 1.68 to the bottom, either with just a jump ring type attachment or with a short chain (see journey and stone below). The second design is to use the three smallest stones from the journey pendant for the part that goes on the chain (bezel or single prong set?) with a 1/4" chain to a the largest stone on the journey pendant (bezeled) to another 1/4" chain to the bezeled 1.68 (see bad, unscaled drawing below). Which design do you think will look best? Any other ideas I should consider?

I like the second better than the first .

First choice - 1.68ct is a very nice size stone for a ring, especially the graduated, 5-stone, Trellis ring that Hawaiianorangetree has (  Someday when I find my center stone, I want to make a ring like hers). My suggestion is to make this 5-stone ring using the 1.68 ct diamond and any or none of the melees from the journey pendant (reason is to match size and cut for proper proportion). You can always use the unused melees for other projects.

Second choice - If you do not want another ring, but want a pendant or necklace instead, I suggest doing a fancy dbty necklace as follows:
16"-18" short length,
1.68 ct diamond dangling in the dbty, and
use the Journey pendant melees for some of the dbty diamonds (you need to add more melees). You can have various size dbty diamonds placed in a graduated fashion towards the center.

The above mentioned choices will result in substantially gorgeous and serious blink for special occaisons instead of something a bit ordinary for everyday wear, and will do your gorgoeus 1.68ct diamond justice.

Of the two options you posted, I prefer the 2nd option - actually reminds me a bit of FancyDiamonds avatar above!!

BUT... I also think that FD has an AWESOME alternate and use the giant jewel as a centre stone in an incredible DBTY!! That would be outstanding! ( :appl: YAY FD with that suggestions!! :appl: )

Hi Fancy diamonds! Your gorgeous necklace is actually part of my inspiration. I am also having a DBTY made, but I want the pendant to be a separate piece so I can wear it with pearls or other chains. I LOVE your necklace. I knew it was what I wanted because it made my heart beat and made me short of breath! I actually had a physical reaction to the pictures! So thank you for inspiring me. My DBTY will be pretty substantial - 12 .25ish stones on a chain that can hang at 21, 20, 19, or 18" (I have a fat neck :angryfire: - but I measured it all out.) I also think I like option 2 which would be more like your necklace, but started thinking it may cost less to use the journey pendant more or less in tact and change the clasp.

I definitely considered a 5 stone trellis! Yssie's is another piece that creates that same physical reaction, and I would love, love, love to have one. The reason I decided on a pendant was that I think if I have that gorgeous ring, I will never wear any of my colored stone rings again! Now you have me doubting that decision though! I also have a new e-ring stone that is in a temp. setting, and if I buy stones for the trellis 5 stone, it will be pretty expensive and I will have to wait longer to do my new e-ring. Ugh! Decisions would be so easy if I had a money tree!

Hi Enerchi! Thanks for chiming in. I considered this option too, but am trying to make this as versatile as possible and so I didn't want to lock such a big stone into one piece. I love the vintage pieces that come apart and can be made into several pieces of jewelry. I saw one on 1stdibs where it is a ring that comes off the shank and the stone has a clasp on it to make it a necklace. It is a huge spess, and I would LOVE to have it (if only it weren't for the price tag!)

I am thinking if I use option 2, I will have the top piece be separate with an enhancer. Then I can hang the 1.68 piece or another stone from it. I also want some sort of hook on the 1.68 so that I could also hang different colored stones from it. I don't know how this hook would work though. Bring on the creativity ladies!

Wow- that's a hard one Blingy! I like the second pendant options better, but dang, a nice 5 stone would be such a temptation!

You guys are KILLING me!! Now I am going back and drooling over Yssie's ring. To be honest, I would probably rather have that than a pendant, but I am trying to be reasonable and "fill out" my jewelry wardrobe. Should I do the trellis ring and just hang the journey from my DBTY? Oh gosh. I am so indecisive! Help! Pendant. Ring. Pendant. Ring. Pendant. Ring. I just love rings (I finally figured out it is because I can see them when I am wearing them). And I am going to have an awesome DBTY. And I could get a smaller diamond for a pendant down the road. I LOVE Yssie's ring. Has anyone seen a trellis in YG? See I am all over the place now, and I thought I had decided, darn it.

This is generally my reasoning with pendants. I often forget to wear them, or only wear them for special occasions, but wear rings every day so though I would like to make an OEC pendant one day, it's going to be on the smaller side because I can't see putting a big stone in one when I forget to wear them so often....

I'm gonna bring even more confusion to this table -- since you're having an awesome DBTY necklace made, why not put away the 1.68 stone and concentrate on the main ering setting? When that's done and blings beautifully on your finger, you can come back and decide whether you want a pendant or a ring. Eh? :naughty: (I just can't wait to see how you set your beautiful honker!)

Gem:) I just feel guilty about my beloved 1.68 sitting in the dark when I already have a temp e-ring. So I thought I should get all the bling on, then concentrate on the e-ring. However, the 5 stone will cost more due to sourcing 4 more stones - so that has to be considered. I have all the stones I would need for a pendant, with a few left over.

Hmm.... tough choices. Sorry if you already wrote about this and I missed it in the thread -- is the DBTY going to be the more casual necklace, and the one with the 1.68 more dressy? If the 1.68 is more dressy, then I'd go with the second design you posted (the hand drawn one). I wouldn't suspend the 1.68 from the journey because I think it wouldn't look organic and wouldn't hang quite right.

If I had your stones and were making a pendant for myself, I'd go with the second choice FancyDiamond described. Sounds both practical and drop dead gorgeous (1.68 in the center with some graduated stations leading up to it).

The more I think about it, the more I think I should stick with the pendant plan. It will be versatile and cost less than another ring - so I won't have to wait as long for an e-ring reset :appl: I just feel that I have to set the 1.68 before the e-ring. I think I agree about not doing choice 1 - I was trying to get away with spending less:), but #2 looks better.

If I go with the pendant plan, and choice two, there would be three separate items. The DBTY on its own with twelve .25 stations. Then an enhancer clasp with three stones (bezeled, I think). Then the third piece would be a chain, small bezeled diamond, chain, then the 1.68. That way I can wear the DBTY alone, with the drop 1.68, or with the enhancer clasp and some other drop pendant. That way I could sort of mix and match.

Great plan Blingy! I like this plan. Now... what about haloing the 1.68 for more bling? yes no yes no? Maybe?

I like option 2. It is a great idea to have something to versatile.

Gem, you are a bad influence :naughty: I did consider a halo - I love fancydiamond's pear drop - but I am thinking of a 2 tone halo. The DBTY will be WG bezels with YG chain. So I though for the 1.68 I would do a small WG mil grained bezel with a slightly wider YG bezel around that. What do you think?

But I really do love that 5 stone trellis. Yuuuu - mmmmy!!

Maybe I should have a "What would you do if this were your diamond" thread like classyrocks. I wish I had THAT classy ROCK!

Thanks for giving an opinion, Marcy. I like the idea of creating something that can turn into several different pieces of jewelry.

What do you think about the pendant vs the 5 stone? I just know that is the only RHR I would ever wear though. I would love it so much! Maybe I should make a 5 stone diamond ring and turn some of my colored stone rings into pendants if I don't wear them much. :naughty: My ideas are getting more and more expensive. I am all over the place. :Up_to_something:
