Hello

Looking for a pair of one carat round diamond studs. Checked out bluenile but they don't provide asset or ideal scope images. Is this imperative to have or would you feel comfortable buying a pair without them? Which other retailers would you recommend?

Thanks

Miz

Budget? Color/specs you are looking for?

~H color, ideal cut, VS2-SI1, prob $10-12k range (for the pair)

Try IDJ.com for best value for money.

Whiteflash. Or you can go choosing your stones separately. Just to be clear, is that 1ct per ear or 1ct total diamond weight across both studs?

1ct per ear.

1) I was planning on choosing separately, or do you recommend just buying it in pairs?
2) I understand asset and ideal scope images are preferable, but most stones don't have these. Would you avoid stones without images?
3) Once you narrow down to a few choices, do you just rely on the vendor to visualize them?

Either ways is okay as long as they match similar in size, colour and possibly clarity.

Yes as they are important for detection of symmetry and light leakages and over all quality of the diamonds.

3) Once you narrow down to a few choices, do you just rely on the vendor to visualize them?
Yes and also post details on PS so that you can get honest independent opinions and suggestions.

With that budget, I'd go with Whiteflash.

If you go with WF you'll have to go with just under a carat per diamond. That's what I did because there's a tremendous jump once you hit the carat mark.

Jumping onto what JLW05 said: There are a few 'magic weights' where you see the cost of a diamond increase dramatically. All other factors being equal, the more a diamond weighs the more it typically costs - but the price increase is not a constant scale.

(Again - assuming ALL other factors being equal) As a diamond passes the 1/2 carat weight mark it will usually jump in price - but the jump is not a simple price per carat ratio, typically the price-per-carat jumps up because a .5 carat diamond is more desirable in many eyes than a .47 carat diamond because you can say, "It's half a carat".

"Magic weights" are found at these and other weights: .5, .75, 1.0, 1.25, etc... with each successive magic weight typically increasing MORE per-carat than the weight previous to it.

For this reason many people look for a .94 or .47 instead, knowing that the appearance (all other factors being equal) of the diamond will likely be indistinguishable from a diamond which hits the magic weight, but the price could be significantly more affordable.
