Dear all,

I am going to buy the very first diamond for engagment ring. Would like to have your helps on selection from the following candidates.

I have done the cut advisor and got the repots for both diamond as follows.

1st diamond:

Carat Weight: 0.8ct
Color Grade: E
Clarity Grade: VS1

Light Return: Excellent
Fire: Excellent
Scintillation: Excellent
Spread: Very Good
Total Visual Performance: 1.5 - Excellent within TIC range

Diamond Proportions in GIA report:
Depth: 61.5%
Table: 58%
Crown Angle: 34.5
Pavilion Angle: 40.8
Culet: 0
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick, Facted (3.5%)
Star Length: 50%
Lower Half: 80%

2nd Diamond:

Carat Weight: 0.74ct
Color Grade: E
Clarity Grade: VS1

Light Return: Excellent
Fire: Excellent
Scintillation: Excellent
Spread: Excellent
Total Visual Performance: 0.8 - Excellent within TIC range

Diamond Proportions in GIA report:
Depth: 60.3%
Table: 57%
Crown Angle: 33.5
Pavilion Angle: 40.8
Culet: 0
Girdle: Medium, Facted (3.0%)
Star Length: 50%
Lower Half: 75%

Actually, from the visual performance above, I think the 2nd one is better. However, according to the "AGS 0 candidates for 57% table" (upper rignt in the cut advisor report), the 2nd one is not within AGS ideal 'candidates'.

For 1st diamond, even though the visual performance is not as good as the 2nd one, it is within both GIA excellent 'candidates' and AGS ideal 'candidates'.

Please give me some advices. Thanks a lot!

both look promising from the numbers.

What are the star and lower half numbers?

Both diamonds have nice numbers.

Don''t use the cut advisor as a lifeline - it''s a tool, one of many! Focus on what your eyes see first and foremost, or numbers and images in the event that you can''t physically see the stone.

Thanks you guys. I have added the Star Length and Lower Half.

Actually, the 1st one is 0.8ct and the 2nd is 0.74ct. I am not wealthy..

Thanks. I will go shopping but what i am worring about is in the shop, all diamonds look brilliant and dizzy... So, need your recommendations on the selection.

looks like you might prefer the fatter arrow look that comes from having a smaller lower half. try looking for that difference next time you do shopping.

When viewing stones, try to get out of the store lights, view the stone in as many different lighting conditions as you can think of and see which ones you like.

Thanks Stone-cold11.

But which one will you pick up from the 2 stones above? :)

Probably the second one too, but that is because I prefer a fatter arrow look and performance, so is a personal preference thing. No way to really tell if that is really the case because of the rounding of the numbers, the 2 arrow size could almost be the same, need an image to tell.

Thanks. You taught me a lot!

I prefer the first, if it's actually 80-82, but I like longer splintery arrows. All in what you prefer!

ditto sc though - because they round it could be no visible difference at all

Thanks.

Another question, 80-82 is a good weight? Sorry I am just a starter.

Ditto, also these differences if any can be extremely subtle. Yes, the .80 region is a nice weight for a diamond I believe.
