Hello All!
I am trying to match an existing diamond I have for a pair of earrings.
Which of these two options do you recommend from a sparkle perspective
1. J VS1 0.81 Table 57%, Depth 62.1% CA 34.5 degrees, pavilion angle 41.2 degrees. Dimensions of 5.95x6x3.71 mm
2. I VS1 0.84 Table 56%, Depth 62.6%
CA 35.5 deg, pavilion angle 40.6 deg 5.98x6.0x3.76 mm in dimensions

What if the vendor is not able to provide ASET images?

Thanks,
Nami

What are the stats of your current diamond you already have?
With earrings, you need to consider measurement (mm), table size, and color.
Is there a return policy? I think you need to see the 2 stones together to assess best if they are a good match, versus the emphasis on proportions (short of what I stated above).
You are trying to make a match so it’s really important how they look together in person.

The one I have is 5.94x6x3.68 table 57.2 depth. Crown angle 34.7 deg; pavilion angle 40.7.
Yes there is a return policy.
When I look at even matched pairs not all parameters such as table depth percentages or crown/pavilion angles seem to match - is that to be expected?

Thank you for the advice!
Here is one more which is a better match diameter wise.
J VS2 5.96x5.92x3.70 4396E5F0-E152-476C-908A-87D80DC21324.png
Table 56%
Depth 62.2%
Crown angle 35
Pavilion angle 40.8
Weight 0 .82 ct
Hca 0.9

Is this a better diamond

Thank you

I think this diamond will be a great match with your current diamond and images aren’t perfect but pretty good.

I have another contender but it scored only 0.8 on the HCA.
Should I rule it out?
Here are the specs:
0.82 6.03x6.05x3.68 mm

Crown Angle 34.3 degrees
Pavilion Angle 40.7 degrees
Table 56.7%
Depth 61%
Thanks

Given the reporting accuracy of the table, crown & pavilion values it appears this stone along with your original stone you are trying to match both have AGS reports.

Is that correct? If so, newer AGS reports should have a ray traced ASET image on it that will be very revealing to performance.

That said, these proportions are very promising and I generally prefer AGS over GIA because there is less rounding issues.

Edited to add: And yes, it is difficult to find a perfect match where table, crown and pavilion match identically. Another characteristic that may slightly change behavior is the lower girdle facet (LGF) lengths. Smaller values equate to fatter arrows which is a visual effect, but also they behave slightly different in select lighting than larger LGF’s.

These are “personality” traits similar to various crown/pavilion and table sizes.

Very nice diamond. No concerns. If the stone meets your color, clarity & price constraints then I would move forward with it.
