This is a general question, and I realize there are other considerations, but in trying to weigh the 4C''s, the following hypothetical comes to mind...

Which would you guess would be a better looking rock? (let''s say everything else is equal, including the price)...
#1 - Very Good 0.90 carat
#2 - Ideal 0.80 carat

Welll that depends on what your priority is on the stone. Is it the larger carat weight or is it the superb cut? What is 'ideal' anyway? (had to throw that in there...its a highly debatable term) If you are going for the higher carat weight...the first stone would be fine (if all else was equal as you noted), but if you are going for superb cut, assuming that #2 is indeed an excellent cut and not just a regular stone with 'ideal' slapped onto it, then #2 would be the way to go. The carat difference is minimal, you will see a bit of a difference in the size, but not by much. It really is your decision to make when things come down to being so closely aligned.

Good luck!

Another thought that comes to mind is what is their definition of "very good" and what is their definition of "ideal"?

If by ideal you mean crown angles of 35.5 and pavilion angles of 41 and by very good you mean crown angles of 33.5 and pavilion angles of 41 I'll take the very good stone over the idea.
