Like most people buying an engagement ring, this is my first time and I had a question of which of these two diamonds are "better" (realizing it is a subjective call).
Both are oval diamonds and will be set in a platinum ring with two sapphires.
#1 - 1.05carat, E, VS2, depth 63%, table 57%, very good symmetry, excellent polish, girdle thin to thick faceted, no culet, faint florescence, L:W ratio 1.38
#2 - 1.05carat, D, VS1, depth 57.9%, table 57%, good symmetry, very good polish, girdle thin to slightly thick faceted, no culet, no florescence, L:W ratio 1.27
I know these two are very close in quality and both are very close in price $5600-$5800. I am buying them online so I can't simply make the call of which one looks best to my eye.
My concerns are that the depth of #2 might be too shallow and its lenght to width seems small.
My concerns for #1 are its lower clarity and color.
So, my question is, if this were you, which one would you pick?
Also, how much do the symmetry and polish affect the quality and appearance of the diamond? Most books I've looked at hardly address this at all but it is prominently featured in the GIA appraisal.
I would greatly appreciate any help that you could provide. Thanks in advance.
