Hey all! Happy New Year!
The BF and I are planning to go up to NYC because my absolute favorite jeweler is there, but I don't know if he'd have access to Old Pear Cuts. Since we'll already be up there, I want to source some stones to see. So, any recommendations? :))

TIA!

If you are looking for antique cuts in NYC, I recommend you reach out to Adam at Old World Diamonds. They have a huge selection and can also access other stones not shown on their website.

BTW, I've never heard of old pear cut; I'm assuming it may be relatively rare.

Good luck, let us know how it goes!

Anne

Yes, they're not the most common, but they do exist! I've seen the DBL one, it's gorgeous, but not quite the color/shape/size I'm looking for. :)) I'm going to contact Adam @ OWD right away. Thank you!!

For old cuts I would also definitely go with Adam at OWD. He has sourced 3 diamonds for me in the last 2 months and it was a pleasure each time. Just shoot him an email first so he can hunt some down for you. It is extremely quick on email. :appl:

I know they are not in NYC but I would also shoot Jbeg a note too.

The only one I know of in NYC is Old World Diamonds too. Old pear cuts are very uncommon. How old style are you looking for, just out of curiosity? I once saw a rose cut pear and it just left my jaw gaping.

I had the pair of antique pears that are on the JbEG site now for a couple of months - they're such beautiful stones!! I wound up returning them because they were too high-colour for me, and they were just a bit too small to really enjoy the faceting - I think in a slightly larger size they'd be hypnotic

I'd originally wanted a rose cut pear so I wound up getting the 0.72 on the same JbEG page and it's mesmerising in a totally different way! The antique pears looked like diamonds with unique faceting - white and coloured flashes against the usual opaque white/silver/black background, but the rose cut is so different - far fewer but much larger flashes off the basically transparent body, definitely has less *presence* and bling factor but it faces up HUGE for it's weight - I think they're perfect for halo settings

...I've got rose cuts on the brain, can you tell? Well, my 2c - and I owe you an email when I get home tonight ::)

I have dealt with Megan at DiamondIdeals, on w 48th st in NYC

I eargerly await a reply from Adam from OWD :))

Chrono, I don't know how old it would be considered, but I went to an antique show last year and they had the most incredible old pears. Chunky facets, a defined point (unlike the DBL one) and a gorgeous medium sized culet. I've never seen them unset though, so having someone source them would be great.

Lol, Yssie, congrats on winning!! I remember when we hung out you'd mentioned wanting a rosecut pear, they are pretty awesome. :) The JBEG are beautiful stones, but a bit small for an e-ring.
