- For an antique cushion, not sure about size...ideally 1.5-2ct but I think some of these styles might look better with a smaller stone.
- I've been married for almost 10 years so not for an engagement ring but I will be wearing it on my left ring finger.
- In 18k yellow gold for the Megan Thorne rings....YG shank, platinum head for Krikawa ring

All and any opinions welcomed!!

Picture Frame. Hands Down.

My favorite by her is this one:

Megan Thornr Grenwich jewelers.jpg

I love the first one

No 4 for me!!

oh my god,very nice

I've always loved the first one, but for an emerald cut not a cushion, so I vote for the one that Gypsy suggested. It would be amazingly gorgeous!!

Number one for me!

Definitely number one! I also like the one that Gypsy posted too

I especially love the first one! It's so lovely and striking!

The first one would be my choice!

#1!!!

I love the Picture Frame setting too, but IMHO that setting works so well because the center stone is an emerald-cut -- I'm just not sure your antique cushion would show to best advantage in the Picture Frame? It sounds like from your first post that you don't have your diamond yet - do you know if you're going square or rectangular?

I like #4 but it does look more like an engagment ring then the other settings.

#1!!!!!!! LOVE that setting!

I prefer numbers 2 and 4

1 and 4

Just wanted to add that I also really like #2 (I voted earlier for #1)--I think it will also look fab in yellow gold. Really, all of these settings are lovely, but the first two look the most unique to me.

#1 for me too!

Thanks for all the replies, everyone!!

I really love the uniqueness of #1 but I agree, I'm not sure if a cushion will look as good in it- maybe a elongated cushion would look better? So far, I've only seen emerald cuts, asschers and radiants in that setting and their strong, straight lines work very well with the geometric nature of the setting.

Here's a pic of a squarer stone in that setting:

Gypsy,

I do like this one too but I'm concerned the prongs cover up too much of the stone- or maybe it's only an optical illusion?

All I'm seeing with the picture frame setting is those corners snagging on EVERYTHING because in my world, that's what would happen. It's an interesting setting but I think those corners would drive me nuts.

See, I never would have thought of that....and this is why I love getting other people's opinions- sometimes I only see through my sparkly colored glasses! :loopy:

I thought the same thing.

I like the fourth option because of the petal effect surrounding the diamond.

I have a ring with a wavey shank set with alternating diamonds and I find it's"pokey". It reminds me of #2. I'd suggest trying a style like that on first before committing to it.

glitterpants,

I'm so glad my comment didn't offend you. I almost didn't post because I was afraid of being Debbie Downer, but you did ask.

1 and 4 are my favorites.

#4 is lovely

Love love love #1! I am not a frequent poster on other threads but I have admired this setting for a long time so wanted to chime in :)

I'm glad LibbyLA pointed this out, because I looked at that setting and DIED, it's so beautiful, never seen anything like it. Except my teeny Whiteflash prongs get caught on things (not terrible, but just some things occasionally) and now I know how impractical that setting would be. But the bezel! And the fishtail prongs! And the band examples they pair it with are similar to my bezel band! :rodent:

Edited to add: some in the colored stones forum have used this Etsy seller, and she has a LOT of nature-inspired rings that are just gorgey! Like this one: http://www.etsy.com/listing/82689738/square-cushion-cut-6x6-mm-green-sapphire

I keep looking at the photo of the picture frame one and seeing little Jersey calf horns just starting to grow out, or little devil horns. One of my rings (OEC) has similar prongs, but the corner point doesn't stick out or up quit so far. The prongs are much more square on the outer edge. This one is much more tapered to a point.

It's unique, it's interesting, it looks like a cool setting for an oval (I've wondered what that type of setting might look like for an elongated, rather than round, stone), but the prongs are just a little too pointy for my tastes.
