Which is more expensive?

Hi all,

I recently ordered a diamond online

0.52ct J SI1 EX cut/polish/sym ( GIA cert)

But they sent me an "upgrade" which was:

0.5ct H SI1 VG cut EX polish/Sym (EDR cert)

Was wondering if this was a so call upgrade?

I have since sent the stone back.

Lighter weight + inferior cut + inferior cert = clear downgrade

I hope you didn't have to pay shipping in either direction.

The VG cut is not an upgrade. You basically downgraded in every way: cut, certification, and possibly color. I think the "new" stone would be a downgrade IMHO. Also, I'm not really familiar with ERD certs, but it may be softer on grading than GIA... Regardless, I would choose an EX over VG any day.

I would try to get the stone back. Since they said you have the "upgrade," then it should be no problem getting the other stone back if it is still available.

I reason they sent me the "upgrade" is because they sold the one i ordered, since their website was not updated.

I wouldn't accept that trade under any circumstances - a GIA for a GIA, nothing else!!

This vendor is either not knowledgeable or is dishonest. I believe that it is the latter. Regardless, I would NOT do business with them -- find another vendor that has proven to be trustworthy. Return the diamond, get your money back.
