Chubb or Jewelers Mutual and why?

Jewelers Mutal because they insure your stone while it is being set.

I would have preferred Chubb but they were astronomically expensive to insure my ring so I went with JM who was less than half the price. I preferred Chubb because they payed cash for your ring if it were lost or stolen and JM allows you to work with your jeweler to find a replacement based on the price they say. I hope that makes sense. In any case we went with JM because we couldn't rationalize spending over 2,000 per year to insure my ER. None of my other jewelry is covered. Just my ER.

Good luck!

I chose JM for the above reasons. Chubb does not even offer stand alone policies for rings in Canada anyways as far as I know.

Is there anything wrong with getting jewelry insured through people such as.... State Farm? I''m not talking about putting it in with your homeowners insurance, but a separate stand-alone policy just for jewelry.

Most of the ‘standard’ insurance companies that people are familiar with, like State Farm, don’t generally offer a stand alone policy for jewelry. It’s done as an attachment to your homeowners or renters policy called a rider. Talk to your agent about the details of what’s available in your area. The rules are different from state to state.

Lots of people get riders. We had one. But read the terms of the policy carefully before you commit, especially concerning how and with what they would replace your diamond in the event of a loss.
