Long time lurker, first time posters.

I've been reading and gathering information for weeks now but it seems the more I know, or think I know, the more scared/uncertain I become.

I currently have the following reserved:

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-3244896.htm

But I was thinking of upgrading to one of the following:

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2995570.htm (most expensive, but to me the table looks small)

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-3473199.htm# (feathers near the edge)

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-3570262.htm# (lower color, feathers near the edge)

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-3588416.htm# (lower color and I think I can see a cloud/crystal on the 360 video)

Where would you put your money?

Not as expert as many of the people around here, but I did just go through the same "agony of choice" myself with a Princess cut and learned a lot along the way. So for what it's worth:

- The stone that you have reserved is very nice. The only inclusion under the table, where it would be most visible, is a pinpoint which I doubt you'd see unless you have super-vision. The feather is so far off to the perimeter that even if it is visible to the naked eye, you'd really have to be looking for it. My only concern is a little too much blue (contrast) and grey (leakage) on the ASET.

- The table on the G VVS1 is tiny! That's a matter of personal preference I suppose, but not a look that I care for. It also looks a little messy in the center of the table to my eye, soft might be a better word, and at that price you're in 1ct territory. Not a fan of this one.

- The F VS2 isn't bad, but again I have some concerns about the crispness of the center of the table. Also close to 1ct territory moneywise if you go down a couple of color grades (which IMHO you can safely do with a Princess).

- The H VS2 has nowhere near enough red and too much blue going on in the ASET for my liking.

- The final H VS2 is very nice! Keep in mind that the video is at huge magnification, zero chance that you'd see the inclusions with your naked eye IMHO. You could always ask WF to inspect it and make sure that it's eye clean.

Just to muddy the waters further, here are some AGS 000 Princess cuts from JA:

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.73-carat-h-color-vs2-clarity-sku-634363

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.71-carat-g-color-vs1-clarity-sku-530894 (this one is really lively)

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/1.01-carat-i-color-vs1-clarity-sku-382006 (also lively, and gets you into 1ct territory for the same price as the G VVS1 from WF).

Just my 2 cents, and worth exactly the price paid :) Good luck with your search!

I like this stone but if your budget permits I would choose stone # 4 below.

But I was thinking of upgrading to one of the following:

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2995570.htm (most expensive, but to me the table looks small)
This stone is my 2nd favorite - I do love the small table, and the crown is slightly higher than your reserved stone.

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-3473199.htm# (feathers near the edge)
Nothing wrong with this one; but I prefer #4 and #1 over it.

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-3570262.htm# (lower color, feathers near the edge)
This one at 5.22x5.08mm is just not square enough for me - I prefer Princess-cuts to be square/very close to square.

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-3588416.htm# (lower color and I think I can see a cloud/crystal on the 360 video)"
I like this stone best - I love the high crown, and I love all the red in the Aset - I think it is square enough at 5.22 x 5.16mm, and has the largest face-up of all your options. In one position of the video, I think I see the crystal/cloud but it is tiny and not dark, so I'd just ask WF to confirm it is eyeclean from 6" away top view.

OP - All your ACA Princess options are VS2 or better so I don't think clarity is at issue in any of these stones - but still I'd always have WF confirm that they are eyeclean to your preference (for me, I look for eyeclean top and sides from 6" away), and also to verify any feathers near edges do not present a setting hazard.

Here's WF comments on the inspection:

There is one very small black crystal inclusion and there are a couple other tiny crystals that are greyish white in color. I could only view them with magnification.

That picture is what, 40x zoom? Move back from your computer 6-8' and see if you can still see it. The photo is SO magnified, and you caught it only that specific angle.

I'd trust WF answer, but they do have a great return policy should the inclusion bother you IRL. I would think you won't be able to see it w/o a loupe.

Go for it!

Your right, I guess I'm just freaking out/nitpicking because I don't want to make a mistake.

I did the same thing, in fact I second-guessed myself so many times that I lost count. We're simultaneously blessed and cursed with the high resolution images that companies like WF, JA, GoG, BG etc make available. Blessed by being able to buy "sight unseen" with a pretty high degree of confidence, cursed because even the tiniest inclusion that you'd never see with your naked eye (and might even struggle to find with a loupe) is laid bare before us in excruciating detail.

Good choice on the setting, I went the same way. Once I found the right stone I didn't want anything else to distract the viewer's eyes from it. Clean and classic.

I second telephone89's motion for pics, pics, and more pics!

Here's a picture of the finished product that Whiteflash sent me. I should have the ring in my possession tomorrow.

The professional photos are really nice. I hope the H colour is white enough.
