I have been to Italy and all the Hawaiian islands.
Here is a link to my trip. Harriet was trying to decide so here are a few pics. Lake Como and Capri are in there

We went to Italy for our honeymoon. It was very romanatic, but too much to do. We never rested; we didn't want to miss out on anything. I think if I had to do it over again we would have done a Hawaiian island or one section of Italy. The wedding poops you out and then to go on a whirlwind trip; a little tiring. Don't get me wrong; it was gorgeous and very memorable for sure!!! I want to go again very soon.

I think for a honeymoon Kauai, Maui or Oahu. I think the Big island of Hawaiii is gorgeous but not typical Hawaii and I know my parents didn't like it. I went but it was after I went to the other islands. It seems to have the least people and the terrain is very unusual but I really thought it was wonderful. Large sections of the big Island is black lava. My parents wanted white beaches and green scenary. I think you would get more green on Kauai and Oahu and then Maui.

Kauai is by far my favorite; it is very lush and tropical and I love the beaches. I could snorkle all day in Tunnels and Ke e beach. I love the north shore (Princeville) of Kauai and it would be perfect in July. Okay, that is my 2 cents. best wishes!!! I will answer any questions if you like. Also, Kauai is the location used in Jarrasic Park. Also, there are lots of waterfalls; it is all so a little less commerialized than Oahu and Maui.

I lived in Italy for 8 years - 2 years in Como and 6 years in Tuscany.

July and August are super hot and everything is shut in August except on the coast.

You could easily spend 2 weeks on Lake Como and never be bored - there''s loads to do and being on the lake it''s cooler. There is also a funicular railway up to Brunate which has lovely walks with little bars along the way.

Casino Royale was filmed there.

You can also pop to Switzerland (15 mins by bus) and visit Lake Lugano which is nice too.

I fell in love with Italy there and really can''t recommend it enough. I took FI there last year and he liked it way more than Venice. It''s a bit more "real".

Whatever you do - don''t do too much in Italy. It''s not going anywhere and you get so much more out of a good length of time in one place than a frantic hop round the major cities - that frankly aren''t particularly representative of real life there. I always loathed Florence as you couldn''t move for tourists.

Anyway, if anyone on PS needs advice on Northern Italy, I''m happy to help and recommend places. I''m afraid I never went south of Rome (dreadful I know!) so can''t help there - except to say be wary of pickpockets in Naples!
