I like the K because it has a culet.
But I like the J because I like a long EC, especially because you have such beautiful long slender fingers.

so for YOU i think i like the J, but its hard to vote

Tough choice!!!
You are looking for big and ones with 'presence' and I think BOTH have that.
Between an IF and aVVS1 - IMO, while they are a clarity grade apart, overall -- very similar so a slight edge to the J
colour wise - you like warm so again, slight edge to the J - but would need more pics in different lighting situations to properly assess
ratio - you prefer the more squared off ECs rather than the elongated ones - but the J doesn't look too long and skinny and you DO have lovely long fingers, so its a draw on that point.

Pricing - is one significantly more or less than the other?
"IN LOVE" factor - is it higher for one over the other?

I don't know which one I prefer, really, because they are both beautiful. BUT... for me --- it would be the fluoro that would win it in a tie breaker! I love that effect as long as it is not milky or oily and that pic shown, the diamond has no ill effects at all!

Good luck!

At least you didn't tell me to buy BOTH.... Enerchi 1-800-I-ENABLE

I prefer the K,the shape and facet pattern appeals to me more. When I was searching for my ec I was drawn to the square shapes over the longer ones.
What is the ratio on the k?

So glad you weighed in! Thank you! :wavey:

I like the K better. There's something about the faceting that is more appealing and also I like squarer shapes rather than elongated ones myself.

Bump..

The J has the potential to be a performer - looks almost evenly bright in the picture. The picture is lousy though compared to the K picture where the facets and steps are in sharp focus. As mentioned in the other thread, I don't like the black band going across the waist of the K.

I prefer the J, though I know very little about what to look for in an emerald, only what my eye prefers.

I wish you had a straight up picture of the K. Its really hard for me to check out the faceting pattern.

My eye prefers the k shape and pattern.

You aren't going to really like my answer, but I wouldn't buy a K personally. I just don't like that much tint in a diamond. J is my personal limit for everything other than a true antique diamond in an antique setting.

The J stone looks very nice to me, but it would have to have the right side stones to make the elongated shape work. Probably EC's on either side.

I love EC's and would love to have one. But the answer for myself would be...keep looking! Don't settle. I don't think you love either one enough to buy. When I saw my little asscher, it was perfect...cut, color, performance, the works! Definitely wait for one that you consider perfect. My biggest mistake is settling for less than what I really want. Then I have to sell before I can buy again!!!

agreed. That stone is beautiful and I much prefer it to the long J...

I don't like the ratio of the J. I like a fatter EC. Plus, I don't mind lower colors.

Oh and culet! Culet! Culet!!!

I also think I'm ok with the K color. I need to see. I like Woofmama's K.

The J is actually slightly cheaper finished but this picture is all I get. If I don't like it I'm locked in with the vendor. Which isn't sitting well.

I'm gonna see the K. .... The chunkiness is appealing.

I agree with D'S on the J the tapered Baguettes I have my heart set on may not be enough.

The numbers looked good but the ratio is pushing it.

My ONLY concern with the K is the "band" that has been mentioned. I really like the diamond.

I like the J...my eyes just prefer it.

I like the shape of the K diamond better.

K, definitely! As my grandpa used to tell my grandmother, "Short and squatty, good enough for anybody."

I love chunky emerald cuts!

I do love the shape of the K. But I can't remember from the other thread, did you ever get the ASET image for it?

Video of K

Wow!!! What an amazing video! Didn't think I could love it more!

I like the faceting of the K better but I'm with DS - a K color in an emerald cut stone is too tinted for me. I would prefer a higher color in an emerald cut stone. You see everything in them. The IF is overkill though and raises the price. I'd rather have a G, VS1. Better balance of color and clarity. There are lots of emerald cut stones - I wouldn't limit myself to just these two stones.

Good point. "When in doubt - don't"
If there is no clear winner in your mind, maybe the right diamond hasn't come along yet....??

I don't like how large the tables are in either. All else being equal, my own experience is larger tables look a little glassy. I also dont like the band of dark accross the middle of the K, which is evident in the video and the photos.

I like the measurements on that J a lot.

If well cut, I doubt an EC with a 64% table will be glassy. 65% is the max I would go for.

MayK I'm very flattered that you like my stone so much. I'm really a novice at choosing diamonds & just happened across it while cruising thru JA one afternoon. I did love the facet pattern, the squareness (mine is a 1.09 ratio) and had zero idea if the K color would be okay or a turn off. I decided to check it out after the more experienced on this board encouraged me because the ASET was good & the gemologist report was very positive. I'm happy I picked it, I don't notice the color very often & it looks great next to my band which is G-H stones. I will say that while looking for settings if it was placed in a setting with pave or sidestones the color did show. I think it is really subjective, only you can decide if the color works for you. That said I do think the black band in this particular stone might hinder performance. Maybe you can order it & see what you think. I have seen many J-K-L stepcuts on this board that faced up beautifully, if that is the color range you want to get a larger size then don't rule them out.

Best of luck in search! I'll keep watching your threads :))
