Hi Jem

The diamond is borderline shallow and might show obstruction ( darkening when viewed closely), I would definitely request an Idealscope image for this stone.

What is your budget for the diamond and would you like some suggestions?

Hi Lorelei,

I would love help on choosing one! At first I was a bit worried about having diamonds falling out of this setting since it is pave but i was also tihinking james allen may be more reliable than american set co.:

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/18k-White-Gold-2-2mm-Pave-Set-Diamond-Ring.html

my budget is 500 dollars for the diamond.

I also found one on james allen with a pricescope discount:
Diamond # :1091490

I would be willing to do SI1 if it is eyeclean. any suggestions?

Ok no problem! Whats the lowest colour grade you are willing to go for, that would broaden the options considerably if you would consider H and I colour and even SI2 if verified eyeclean?

The diamond you found isn''t well cut from the loupe image and it is a pre cut grade report so it doesn''t have all the info needed, but from the look of it I would try to find some others.

do you think these are eyeclean or good diamonds? (this is if i am going down a color grade and clarity (to SI1)....

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1255180.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Premium-Cut-Round-Diamond-1250790.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131

any suggestions greatly appreciated!
The first has a shallow pavilion angle and might show obstruction ( darkening when the diamond is viewed closely) so an Idealscope image would be needed.

The second is lacking the information needed as the report hasn''t been loaded, you could ask JA to email you the details then post them here.

well, my budget will be 500 dollars (i definitely do not want to go over this amount). I am willing to go to H or even I if the color is nice, and maybe only up until a SI1 for eyeclean diamonds. I preferably would like to stick with james allen diamonds just because its where I plan on buying my setting, and I am located in Japan so its much easier to have the diamond and the setting from the same company.

as for carat size, i was thinking of .3 to 0.5. preferably 0.4 would be nice.

I will check these out for you, I also found these, you would need to check they are eyeclean to your standards by asking the vendor,

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1262676.asp

With your selections above Jem, you would need to ask JA for the info on each diamond, see if they can send you the details from the reports.

i can definitely try to get the info from JA!

I was thinking though, that I might want to go with a GIA certification....isnt GIA the best?

AGS is considered equivalent to GIA for diamond grading and in fact their cut grading is also considered preferable to GIA's system. AGS0 cut grade is performance based, whereas GIA is proportion based, also GIA round these proportions which can mean some diamonds don't work as effectively performancewise, also GIA's highest cut grade Excellent can allow for some less desirable proportion combos such as what we call the steep deeps to get this grade, these diamonds can show light leakage in some cases ( the enemy!).

thanks for this. I am still thinking that perhaps I would only like to go down to SI1 for clarity and not SI2.

Here is the GIA laboratory report and the magnified image of our 0.41ct H-SI1 round diamond, item 1250790 \(James Allen)

They said that "Based on the image, this diamond will be eye clean, and based on the lab report the diamond will have great fire and brilliance. "

wait a minute....im trying to attach the photos or copy and paste it but its not working!?!

here is the GIA report i was trying to attach.

the two Lorelei picked out above are nice.

Ok, thanks Jem.

If you would consider I colour, here is one which might suit you, $470 with discounts. You would need to check it is eyeclean as usual.

You could ask for more info on this one,

Im so thankful for your help! Great! I am going to see what sort of info I can get from James Allen about these two.

You are most welcome Jem! JA should be open soon, so ask them for an Idealscope image on the first one and make sure it is put on hold for you ( to prevent lurker poaching), requesting an IS image should put it on hold anyway but it doesn''t hurt to check.

The second one could be good too depending on what the rest of the proportions are, they should be able to get that for you quite soon.

Great!!!! Ive sent them another email just in case....i can almost see the ring. its so close!

Great stuff! I would give them a call to make sure, they should be open soon.

James Allen can only send me up to three Idealscopes.

She also sent me these. Out of all of them (including the ones I chose and Lorelei chose) which three should i choose to get the idealscope?

The comparison list is not working.

thanks stonecold! ya, i had to click on that james allen link twice to make it work....

I think the link are cached in your web surfer so others will not be able to see the stones with just that link. Try listing out the stone item number.
