hi lorelei and any others who want to suggest which one is the best! I got the idealscopes back. which diamond do you think is best? (i have to post this as three different posts cuz this wont let me attach 3 pics).

JA diamond #1255755

1255775.JPG

JA diamond 1258680

1258680.JPG

JA diamond 1260778

The guy from James Allen also mentioned this:

"Here are a few key things you will want to look for when deciphering these images.

Diamond facets act like windows and mirrors, concentrating the brightness from light sources, and then returning it to your eyes.

The redder an Ideal-Scope image, the brighter the diamond.

All diamonds leak some light. Generally less leakage is better. Leakage appears as white areas in an Ideal-Scope.

Small areas of leakage around the girdle add contrast in the spaces between the star tips.

Fiery flashes are often from girdle leakage areas, especially in prong set diamonds.

Too much girdle leakage makes a diamond look small. A small amount of girdle leakage aids contrast"

Looking at these three, which do you think is best?

These are some of the most terrible IS taken by JA.

Only 1258680 is of useful quality. Looks good, although the stone is still tilted.

1255755 is very tilted, probably is good, but can't be sure.

1260778 is totally off, seem like the scope is too far away from the stone, totally no contrast.

Something someone once said about a shovel comes to mind

Hi Jem

Diamond 2 is the best one.

thanks so much for the replies! i think i am going with diamond 2.

:)

Good luck. :)

Can you reflect to JA how badly taken these IS are? I think they are probably not used to photographing small stones so the set up is not calibrated correctly.

It is by far the best, even allowing for the images to be off, the other diamonds don't look that hot anyway.

Ok!

The crown angle is 35 and the pavilion angle is 42%.

is this good?

That cannot be angle. Ask for the GIA report number.

is this wrong? they said that the angle is very steep but that this diamond doenst look that dark.

Doesn''t look right, I don''t think thats the angle, check with them or ask for the report number so we can look it up.

so I just mentioned to JA that the idealscopes may be off, but they said it was the diamond itself....

i got the report number. 2101986287 is the GIA report number. is this angle too steep or what?

here is the GIA report for 1258680 but the JA guy thinks that 1255775 is far more superior with color, quality and appearance...

Much better, very promising with the larger lower half but the IS image is totally useless.

Folks,

We just take the pictures - we don''t cut the stones. The idealscopes really are *that bad*.

We did goof, however, and Darin switched the numbers for 1258680 and 1260778. The correct angles and cert for 1260778 are here:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1260778.asp

hey stonecold11 - guess what! JA mixed up the idealscopes and labelled them wrong! So the images for 1255775 and 1258680 were mixed up. does this mean that the 1255775 diamond is the best?
