There are worse ones out there but better ones too.
It isnt a total dog but its not that great either.
The table is more rectangular than the stone is the first clue.
ie: the facets leading up to the table are cut differently left to right then top to bottom.
The dimensions being off square if the center is cut right can still be nice looking but this one the whole stone was cut off square.
Id keep looking.

I''ll ley storm give you his expert advice, but I think it looks nice. I''m suprised actually.

ti is the only material id consider for a tension ring.[/quote]

Why titanium? Because the metal is springier? Titanium doesn''t allow for sidestones.

hmm i remember someone posting a ti ring with side stones.
Someone posted here that they lost a diamond from the most famous maker of gold tension settings and the reply from them was well you shouldnt have clapped with it on.
Long term I just dont see them holding up.
You might consider a semi-tension with bars under the diamond not visible from the top in gold or plat.

I read that thread about the hand-clapping-diamond-falling-out incident. That is ridiculous!

My stone is not perfect by industry standards, I''m far from an expert, and neither is anyone I know, but I love it in person. With the type of setting you are looking at I may be wrong, but I think it''s important for the culet to be smaller or non-existent. In a bezel setting I don''t think it would create as much of a problem. You should see if the place you are purchasing the stone from could ship it to an appraiser in your area so you can see the stone in person and see if you love it. My cousin is getting married on July 16th and she orginally had a tension set diamond in a white gold setting and it fell out three times, once losing the diamond all together, insurance replaced it, but they ended up going for a different setting because of all the problems. She only had the tension setting for a couple months and everytime I saw her she didn''t have her ring because it was being reset. I think the tension settings are beautiful, but you may want to look into some different types if you decide to go with this diamond and don''t want a Titanium setting. I don''t know anything about the metal making a difference, but I''ve heard lots of horror stories about the tension setting.

I second storm''s suggestion regarding the bars under the diamond, not visible. Personally, tension settings scare me. They seem like playing russian roulet, you may look down one day and realize you''re wearing a band with a gap in the middle, no diamond! If you really like the look of the tension setting, I would definitely get some form of bar underneath to add support and be there as a "catch" in case the stone does come loose.

I can berely make out the edges of the table in that picture ! How can you tell ?

have you considered a ''tension set look''? you could clap at least!

no, i don''t believe you can loose a diamond by just clapping, but i would feel better with a more secure setting.

have a look here at stephen''s beatiful ring.

Belle,

That ring of Stephen''s is gorgeous! I think I am going to take everyone''s advice and get bars of some sort underneath. I''ve called 2 titanium jewelers who don''t do sidestones...they say it is impossible or tedious, complicated, and would take the whole day. If they don''t want to do it and aren''t confident it would turn out the best, then I''m not either. So...any advice on where to have it set (just like my avatar) with bars underneath? Of course I''m looking for a quality setting at the best price!

The rings resembles some pieces made by Wink (this is his Pricescope avatar). Take a look on his website (winkjones.com), there must be a tension-like ring around there and several channel set, inlcuding a rather complicated one one with pinkand yellow diamonds.

And then Mark Morell (mwmjewelry.com)

I am not 100% sure about this, but it may be the case that they also work together sometimes !

Just an idea.

ASSCHER UPDATE...

I had the stone I''m interested in called into Whiteflash as some of you suggested. They are spoke of very highly on Pricescope and I trust your testimonies that they are a reputable online vendor. (thanks Dazedland and Storm) They are inspecting it right now and sending me the GIA, Sarin, ideal scope images, and many pics. I will post all of them upon receipt. Most likely I will be buying the stone and having it inspected at home, as well. If I love it, I will keep it! If not, I will return it and keep looking. But honestly, I may regard this stone as a good one for me in spite of its "flaws". None of my friends have ever heard of an asscher, let alone seen one. I know they won''t be the most brilliant since they are known for their depth, which is really what I find so mesmerizing. I''m sure I''ll trade it up for a better cut, larger one with higher color and more "steps" later in life. As far as my setting, I am waiting on quotes for my tension set with the bars underneath from Wink and Whiteflash. You have all been amazing! Stay tuned!
