Hey all!

Some of you probably know the story but in short, my husband lost his wedding ring, we are not putting a claim in for it since our rates might go up if we do (rider on our home policy).

While we are not in a rush to replace it, I was just wondering if anyone had suggestions on where to look online for a replacement. We are open to pre-loved, I've been looking at Etsy, Ruby Lane, some EBay. It just seems a real challenge to find a man's wedding band with good quality diamonds (lots of I1 and 2's out there) and of course DH likes presence since he is not a small guy. His ring had five diamonds totaling a carat. This year we are really working on paying off our debt but I'm thinking a budget of $1,000 for pre-loved maybe a bit more for something new that he really loves.

I suggested that he could take my original diamond from my e-ring (upgraded for 10th anniversary) and use that for a new ring for himself. He was open to that, I just have no idea what that would involve, it's a princess cut just under 3/4 carat and if it would make sense financially.

TIA! :))

This is just a suggestion, how about a titanium or tungsten ring for him to wear now while you save up for a new band or custom ring using your old diamond. I've bought various bands from www.e-weddingbands.com and their quality is good. The diamond quality might be in the I1 or 12 range but I'm sure it will still be nice, especially if it's temporary. The only thing is these rings cannot be sized. So if he loses or gains weight he's out of luck. How about this one: http://www.e-weddingbands.com/store/product140934.html

Alternatively, you could always get him a thick gold band and then have diamonds gypsy set into it later.

Costco! Bought my DH's wedding band at the Juneau, Alaska, Costco :lol-2: Comfort fit.

Did you see the recent article stating that Costco and Tiffany diamonds are bought from the same source? Why pay Tiffany prices?

Pawn shop. Haters gonna hate, but sometimes you have to drop the snobbishness and deal with real life. Wishing you the best in finding a new band for your hubs.

Why not? Its vintage/estate  I've seen some beautiful diamonds in pawn shops. Just check Costco first because if you can get new at pawn shop price...

I knew you guys would come through with some great suggestions.

Austina, I actually looked at Javda for a semi mount before I decided to get a whole new ring, I think their quality is pretty good and I found some styles he might like.

Poodles, he is not going to want to spend the money for something temporary, he would just rather put that money toward something permanent which I guess I can understand but getting a band and then setting diamonds in later, that might work.

Azstonie, we are members at Costco but our local stores don't carry any bands for men?! Kind of a shame since I think Costco has great quality but we are there every week so will keep looking.

Monarch, no shame in my game honey, we are both of the mindset of paying less if we can. There are some good pawn shops around here so we will have to check some out.

Shiny, I LOVE that setting, of course he has to like it I guess right?
That might be a definite possibility especially since the stone has sentimental value, I think that is what bothered him the most losing the ring, so using the stone he originally bought me might help him in that department.

I love that setting that ILoveShiny posted! So cool looking...you could have it made in a metal besides white gold. I think Kenny's
tension rings are made out of some other kind of metal if I remember correctly??? (might save you some money).

I bought my hubby a ring at Walmart for 20 bucks. He loves it. LOL. I think it is stainless or titanium. I saw the very same ring at Kay's for 150.00. We bought it so he could leave his original at home while we travelled.

OMG! So, I was talking to DH about the different options you guys suggested and apparently he is way more upset than I realized. He is stuck in this loop of having paid all this money to the insurance company for absolutely no reason since we can't file a claim without the risk of paying a higher rate. He is being completely unreasonable and refusing to spend more than $20.

I was going in the opposite direction, trying to find a nice replacement but that is just not what he wants. Truth be told, he doesn't even want to replace it at all, I think he is just getting a $20 ring to appease me. Do some guys just not care about a wedding ring? I mean I would jump at the chance to go jewelry shopping, I was actually having fun trying to find him something.

Luv2Sparkle, thanks for your suggestion, it looks like that might be the route we end up going for now.

Can you find out 1) if it really will go up and 2) if so, by how much? Also, how long have you had your insurance company? That may pull some strings too. If you've been paying them thousands of dollars a year for cars/home/etc, they may take that in to consideration and not raise your rate. I'd keep moving it up the ladder until you get to a top supervisor. And, before calling them, you might want to call other insurance companies and get quotes on the cost of getting equivalent insurance (for everything) with them and use that as a bargaining chip when you call your company (as in, you're willing to move all of your accounts)

This gets a little complicated because the company we were insured with for eleven years sold to another company and then their premiums were going up on renewal so our agent wrote us to another company. We have only been with this company for a year, if we were still with Middlesex Mutual I probably could have pulled some strings because the agency had a very cozy relationship with this one company but unfortunately that is not the case.

The only way to find out if the premiums will really go up is to submit the claim BUT what a lot of people don't realize is once you make the insurance company pay, they make you pay by trying to find some way of non-renewing the policy (home inspection) pulling your credit to try to prove you are a higher risk if you credit score has gone down etc. I used to work at this agency so I know all the tricks, it is criminal what they get away with. We both agreed that it's just not worth the stress to submit the claim.

Some good news, he started looking at some rings last night (within his self imposed budget of $20) and found some rings he liked. He also started poking around on Etsy and found a ring he really liked, so it's this one but in white gold:

So there is some hope!
