Ok, I''ve never been a big fan of Citrine. But my son was born in November which I believe is Citrine (I think there is a more expensive version of the birthstone like Yellow Topaz or something but Citrine is what I see most often in stores) for a birthstone.

Well I''d like to someday have a ring made with his birthstone, but I''d like it to be a really nice Citrine, not the yucky commercial ones you see in all the mall stores. Any thoughts?

It is relatively easy to find attractive fency cuts in citrine because the material is not too expensive to 'waste' in the process. Some are pretty over the top actually and the stones themselves are very beautiful, IMO.

Stones that comes as a mix of amethyst and citrine (these are the same material heated ot not, so both colors may happen in the same piece of rock) are called 'ametrine' and this is what Michael Dyber has done with a couple of these:

Typical yellow and orange citrines are to be found on his website HERE. Most of these stones are large for rings, but smaller are available too and other cuters imitate the style if you happen to like it.

And a concave cut:

And another citrine carving by Will Johnson at Premier Gem Design:

On the other hand, yellow topaz is not that expensive. There is a fine line between the pinkish 'imperrial' topaz and the yellow lot. There are a couple of those Down Here fr example.

geez, that ametrine is to die for! i''m not keen on homer''s concave cut but the others are divine! i''ve not thought citrine could look so rich!

These are not as excentrically expensive as you might expect - well, maybe this one is not even for sale (it was the winner of the famed gem cuting contest of Idar Oberstein) but there are other web cuts and I would surely like this signature even on glass...

You may find more about these and other gem carvers on the GANA website.

I LOVE the color and shape of Homer''s citrine.. very yummy!!

Thanks all! Richard Homer is cutting us a Citrine! Just have to mail the check tomorrow. Now I need setting ideas. It will be a 5mm round.

YEAH YEAH YEAH JAX..be sure to post lots of pictures.... What type of stting do you like? You want something simple? With diamonds? Any side stones?

How wonderful.
I can''t wait to see it.

How will it be set?

I like Citrine i''m also a November baby. I love Ametrine, especially when the color is good. I have been wanting one of those for awhile.

Hi,
I have an orange citrine ring set with side diamonds and wanted to mention that these work VERY nicely together. Wonderful contrast. Something you may want to consider when looking into a design

I dont think I would do anything to complicated, concave cuts are so busy they might clash. What color metal are you thinking? Do you prefer wide or thin bands? About how much do you plan on spending on this ring?
