I''d like to spend under $700 on some really nice round diamond studs. I''m looking for 1/3 total carat weight...any good websites to look at?

Thanks!

Thank you! I was looking at those. Do you think they would appraise for around the price that they are being sold for? Is the cut, clarity and everything else ok?

They will appraise for what you''re paying. Chances are they will appraise for more! When you get them, take them to a local B&M and see what that store can offer in the same price range. There''s next to no chance they''ll have diamonds of the same CUT, color and clarity as the WF ones.

Ditto for sure.

thritto! They''ll be gorgeous!

I guess my concern is that they are for my girlfriend and she definitely wants 1.3 ct weight. 1/2 carat are too big. She is VERY petite with tiny ears. The 1/4 are just a hair to small in the jewelry stores. Hmm.

Littman''s Jewelers has 1/3 carat weigh earrings that are from their "Near Colorless Collection" That are $400. They are "certified" but I don''t know the exact stats of the stones. I do know that they are "I1". Maybe I can find out the rest in the store...

What you could do is tell WF what you are looking for and ask them to match you up a pair. Also,

www.briangavindiamonds.com have been offering some super earrings recently, might be worth asking Lesley what she can come up with.

Is there info on which lab certified the stones? Just because they''re listed as "certified," that doesn''t mean you''re getting the same quality of stones as stated. Almost all labs have different levels of strickness and you''re comparing I1 stones from their lab to SI1 stones from WF uncertified. WF isn''t trying to pump up their stones by following the myth that certified equals exactly what you''re paying for. That other jeweler is.

Keep in mind, you''ll have to pay tax on the B&M store which adds addiitonal costs. Not sure where you live, but in my city, that''s almost an additional $40 on $400.

Ditto MC. Also no way of knowing the cut quality of these diamonds which is still important in these sizes and without a reliable lab report, no way of knowing what you are actually getting. The diamonds might not be eyeclean also in this clarity grade, wouldn't be an issue if you had a trusted vendor check them for you for suitability but without no way of knowing until you open the box....

Littman is a subidiary of Fred Meyer Jewelers (just checked). They sell so-so stones. I've never been awed by what they have. Once I went in there and the sales gal insisted I come in for their diamond show and I asked if they'd have well-cut stones there and she said yes, she had bought her diamond there and then showed me. It was dull even under their fancy lighting.

Their prices *are* good. They always have deals of 1 ct for $1900ish, but they're not the highest of quality. Once I was in there and the gal told me a diamond will look larger if it's set in yellow gold vs. white gold.

ETA - Fred Meyer has their jewelery stores in their regular grocery store, so I walk by their showcases every day and always look around. Their stones are NOT graded by the higher reputable labs. . .chances are, IMO, Littman is the same way.

Thank you so much for your help. I know that no matter what, mall jewelry stores aren''t necessarily the best. I will contact someone at whiteflash.

Thank you!

I just talked to someone from whiteflash and they said they could only do 1/4 carats and 1/2 carats. Boo.

Actually, I really like these a lot in the bezel setting:

If she has only tried on 1/3 carat earrings at the mall stores then I would give the Whiteflash 1/4 carat earrings a shot. Well cut stones usually face up bigger and brighter than poorly cut ones usually sold in the mall. These will most likely look as big if not bigger that the 1/3 carat ones you have seen. I would order then and see what you think, if you''re not satisfied you can always return them within the return period window.

Good luck!

Those could work but the trouble is we don''t know much about the cut quality, it says " Good" for cut but really we have no way of knowing what that means....Personally I would rather go with hand selected stones from an expert vendor but if you wanted to take a look at the BN earrings they do have a good return policy if they weren''t what you wanted.

Hi Shiny, I would give Yekutiel at ID Jewelry a call and tell him you’re a PSer. Last November I purchased .62ctw, white gold, bezel set studs (ideal cut, uncertified, f/g color, SI1) for $600. I loved the diamonds but I HATED the bezel setting on me (looks like the same setting offered by Blue Nile). The setting sat high off my lobe and my eye was always drawn to the bezel instead of the diamonds. If your GF has small lobes this particular bezel may be too overpowering. Last week I had the opportunity to upgrade to 1ctw studs and I chose a new setting too; Yekutiel was great to work with. Good Luck !
