I have a diamond and I would like to sell it. But before selling it, I would like to know its quality and price.
I have listened about GIA, Madea and IGI.

I do not know who is better (I guess as far as I read, Gia is something like the more official).

Anyway I don't know how to make it because I never did before.

I live in Spain, so I do not know how it is works, because as far as I know any laboratory is near me:

How do I send to them in order to report it? Or they come to me?
How can I be sure it is not going to be loose?
What are the prices in each one?
What is better?
How much time they took?
Can they do any issue in the diamond?
Do I have to pay shipping?
How do I contact them?

Thank you for your answers

I would do either GIA or AGS

Thank you Skypie. Could you tell me the reasons?

Is AGS the one I already linked?

How do they work?
How can I do it?

You can go to your local jeweler and ask them to help you certify your stone ,if that what you mean. The stone should be lose ,out of setting for any of the labs to do a report . I am not sure about the prices ,but for 1 carat stone is around 150-200$?? You can go to Gia website and you will find pricing there. good luck

GIA and AGS do not give you a value for your stone, however, you should be able to use the specs they give you to reach a value. On the second hand market
(pre-loved, used, etc) stones sell for a lot less than retail value usually anywhere between 30-50% less are the numbers we usually use depending on
how nice the stone is.

You will need to find a jeweler who can send it in for you.

Are you planning on selling in the US? Or are you planning on keeping it in Spain/Europe? Perhaps you should find out what is the most commonly
used Grading Report where you live and use them.

Start with a local jewelry valuer. Neither of the labs mentioned have offices in Spain and neither really does what you want anyway. Depending on what you have, the path may still include them but they are expensive, time consuming, and quite possibly unnecessary.

HI:

Labs don't yield value/price.

In my experience, appraisers can be helpful to provide any number of answers which may include (but not be limited to): details for insurance purposes or for Estate/resale purposes. Google appraisers in your area. I say start local/small and go from there.

cheers--Sharon

Neil says it well. Your local jewelry valuer can also advise you if you need more than his/her report.

Since I. Europe I would go with GIA. There is another lab in Europe that is respected. Starts with an H. I forgot.

If in Europe, GIA or HRD

Thank you so much for your information guys, I will go to a jewelry and If they cannot help I will search an appraisal (I believed like this would be more expensive) Thank you for your help guys, I will tell my experience

I agree with what's said, though I'd rather describe it as 'when sold privately'... I think using the term 'second hand market' in this context can be a bit misleading, considering that technically, any diamond sold by a retailer who accepts trade-ins/upgrades may have been pre-loved but it's not referred to as 'second hand' nor sold at a discount :Up_to_something2:

I agree with @denverappraiser and @Wink a local jewellery appraiser should be able to assess the quality of your stone and give you a guide price. Please note that the costs for second hand resell would differ to that of a retail or insurance price.
