I ditto this! I have been to Africa twice, one time was South Africa, and I just fell in love. My BF went when he was 11 but we have decided to do it again for our honeymoon. We''ll probably make it a longer trip though and do 2 weeks safari, 4 days at the beach, and another 4 or 5 days in wine country. We even threw around the idea of climbing Kilmanjaro in the beginning, but we''ll have to see about that...

Mrs Polka dot... where did you go??
Crooked, I am so jealous! I am dying to go back! Do you think you will safari withing S.A. or in another country?

I lived in Cape Town for about six months. It is my absolute favorite place in Africa! I did a few safaris (the cheap, camping safaris, not the luxury honeymoon ones!) and traveled in a bunch of surrounding countires around S.A., and did some of the Garden Route in S.A.

When we just went back recently, we were in Cape Town (and the surrounding area) the whole time. If you are doing the vineyards, a really lovely little hotel in Franschoek was the Mont Rochelle. I also have the name of a wonderful lady who does personalized wine tours. We had SO much fun!

On my next African adventure (which I hope is very soon), I am obsessed with the idea of doing a gorilla safari and hitting up Uganda and Rwanda. Ahhh...I would move to Africa in a heartbeat...

good question!

who knows anymore...

we had chosen belize because it was relatively close (he hates flying and i get sick on long trips) and it had the beaches plus all the adventure stuff that we wanted to do like the mayan ruines, cave tubing, jungle and snorkeling (AWESOME snorkeling).

i forgot to add, our honeymoon will be 6 nights/7 days wherever it is

I''m SO jealous - everyone''s trips sound great! Our honeymoon is one of the last things undecided for a few reasons. . . We are both teachers and we are getting married on the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend, so originally we were planning to wait and go on a honeymoon over December or February break - except then we found out that everything is literally FOUR times the price at those times
29.gif
. . .we are both teachers and can barely afford a nice trip anyway - let alone at quadruple the price!

So our next option became to try to take the 4 days after our wedding off (we already have off on Monday for Columbus Day) and go someplace then - except it''s hurricane season.
39.gif

Sour options are a bit limited. . .we are either going to suck it up, take the time off and hope we don''t get hit by a typhoon in St. Lucia or Riviera Maya for a week in October OR wait a-l-l the way until summer and go for a cruise on the Mediterranean. But then we will have been married for almost a year already - and, I don''t know, I guess that doesn''t really feel like a "honeymoon."

Sorry if I threadjacked - this is stressing me out - and I''m a bit disappointed that nothing is really ideal.

I am dying to go back too!!! I would love to safari in S.A. again but it will all depend on when we get there and what the state of the country is. When I was there last we did S.A., Botswana, Nimibia, and Zimbabwe. We didn''t necessairly spend time in all of them but we crossed over borders or whatnot while on safari. This was my second safari, the first one was in Kenya during migration when I was 13, so a long time ago! Each time we went with Abercrombie & Kent and have never been dissapointed. They really take the camping out of camping, and I love that!!! I think the Gorilla safari would be neat, it''s just so sad to hear about all the gorilla murders going on over there. It''s probably a good idea to get there sooner than later...

I''m so glad to hear that you like Stellenbosch, bc I am dying to get there! I will have to get all the details from you before we go, so no leaving PS before we get over there!

It''s funny you say you would move there... When I was there at 13 it was bc my Mom wanted to move there, so we really did spend a month there. I wish I would have had the hindsight that I have now bc I would have agreed, but at that age all that mattered to me was my friends and I couldn''t imagine leaving them. For me I would move to New Zealand in a heartbeat. I went there 2 years ago and fell in love, it was an amazing country, particularly the South Island....

Musey, we''re going to L.A. after Mexico, for 6 days. Neither of us has been to California, and we just thought it would be so much fun. We''re going to drive to Vegas in between and spend 2 nights there. Can''t wait!

Claud - yeah, you''re right about getting to see the gorillas sooner rather than later

It is really sad and scary!!

I am dying to get to New Zealand!! Maybe I will have to consult with you on this in a year or so - I can''t wait to go on a big trip again!!

We are heading to South Africa for a week... 3 nights in Cape Town and 4 nights on Safari. We opted for a shorter, more luxurious stay... go big or go home :) I echo the "so excited I can hardly breathe" sentiment.

Other brides had told me that honeymoon planning becomes one of the most exciting part of the planning the wedding, and I didn''t get it until I started planning my own. Weddings seem to become about everyone else and the honeymoon is finally about us doing something unbelieveable together.

We decided on South Africa after contemplating plenty of tropical places and saying "but we can''t wait to go on safari in Africa some day..." So some day became now. Although there is PLENTY of guilt about it ($$$), I know life is short and I honestly could not imagine a better honeymoon for us.

So happy to hear people have such glowing endorsements of South Africa and Cape Town in particular. We have no plans thus far and would love any suggestions!

Just as an aside, FI and I have been using this website to get ideas of places and packages and whatnot. We have found it extremely helpful so far!

Just be careful, I have found myself spending LOTS of time on that site.

We ended up deciding that, given how much traveling we did to get married, we would spend our honeymoon on the couch at our place. That lasted for about 5 minutes. Then I got swamped with work, then my ''aunty'' (of the close friend of the family variety) passed away and I had to fly home for the funeral. And now I''m just back home again, feeling utterly exhausted.

We have talked about taking a four day mini-moon...maybe to Utah or Arizona, since neither of us is American, both of us have trotted the Globe from Sudan to Uzbekistan to Malaysia to Cambodia to Peru and back again, and that corner of the world (i.e, Arizona/Utah) is one of the few neither of us has ever been.

Kinda psyched about it actually. Now we just have to find the time.

Our plan is to spend 2-3 weeks on our honeymoon.

Starting out with a few days staying with friends in London. A couple of days with friends in Paris. Then 12 days in Greece (Athens, Mykonos and Santorini).

OR

We're going to buy a house so we'll just do a weekend trip somewhere locally.

We'll see what happens!

Everyones plans sound WONDERFUL! Everytime I read your posts I was like... OH... that sounds fabulous, ... no that... OH that....!

Well, right now we are just planning one night at a BB down the coast. But, honestly, if I get a new position (especially if its the one I''m interviewing for on the 19th) then I''m going to consider a Christmas/new years honeymoon (3 months after our wedding basically) to either Mexico or Las Vegas. I know John would be game, but in my current position with this current company, I can''t do it. If not, we''re doing something on our one year anniversary. Don''t know what yet. Something tropical that involves clear water and snorkling though, is my choice. I ideally though... GREECE would be my choice. I just don''t see it happening however.

Our honeymoon won''t even happen until spring of 2009 since we''re getting married in the fall. But like I said if we get a house then we won''t be going anywhere which is okay as well. This fall though we should do a weekend trip after our honeymoon just to mark the occasion.

We postponed our honeymoon last summer for work reasons but we''re planning on honeymooning in Bhutan in the Fall, and/or Laos. Depends where I am at the time...but we both have longed to do Bhutan for ages and I have contacts there so I''m trying to piece together a non tour group option for us, fingers crossed. I wanted to do a safari in Botswana since I used to live there and know all the off the radar camps, but the Mr. wants Bhutan so what''s a good wife to do? Bhutan it is...

if you are interested in going to Arizona and are even thinking about seeing the grand canyon you should do two or three days at Havasu falls. I think the hike down is about 8ish miles (?) but it''s a pretty easy hike(or you can have a guide lead you on horseback if you want). we set up camp on the river for a long weekend and did day hikes from there, but you can certainly keep hiking it. it''s not something that lot of people get to see, but it''s definitely worth the effort to get down there.

We just moved to Calgary, so we are taking a 2 week drive to Vancouver and back (normally about a 12 hour drive). British Columbia is absolutely gorgeous, and I''ve never seen it so we are driving through Banff, Lake Louise, Whistler, Vancouver, Seattle, Kelowna wine country, the hot springs, etc. It''s going to be so gorgeous and it will be like 3 vacations in one!!! Hiking, white water rafting, swimming in the ocean, whale watching, exploring a big city, laying on the beach, everything!!!!

We are going to Buenos Aries, Argentina. A friend is getting married there 2+ months after we get hitched so that made the decision for us. Has anyone been? We are going to rent an appt for more than a week, but am wondering about flying into Brazil on miles (yucky $130 visa fee for US citizens), checking it out and then heading on down. It will be spring there, so lovely to get out of our unairconditioned apt. And the dollar isn''t dead there, yet.

Not getting married for 2 years, but have decided on the honeymoon. We''re going for 2 weeks. My FI''s father lives in Spain, so we''re spending the first week there. His father has a whole apartment in his house just for guests, and it''s right on the water. My FI''s Italian, so we''re spending the second week in Italy. I''ve always wanted to visit both places, and because they''re special to my FI, the honeymoon was the easiest decision to make.

Prince Edward Island, Canada - for one week

We just barely got engaged, but I think we''re pretty set on honeymooning in Greece for a week and a half. It won''t be till next spring, but we''re excited already!

Wow everyone is going to such awesome places!

I don''t know where we are going on our honeymoon because it will be a surprise. But I know we will be going for a week. I also know it will be somewhere tropical, on the beach, white sand, where noone in our immediate family has been, because these were the conditions of letting him surprise me.
