when you walk into a jewelry store...

You know I feel the same way. We rarely walk into high end jewelry stores because they intimidate me. Hubby and I dress like bums and I don't carry a designer handbag. I also don't want to waste a salesperson's time when I know that I have no intention of buying from them.

However, we walked into a Tiffany store in Carmel CA while on vacation once. The salesperson sized me up and thought 18k Rolex, check, 3ct pear, check, 11.5 ct tennis bracelet, check. Let me sell them a yellow diamond. Now I knew that I could get a fancy yellow diamond from @Rockdiamond or @Wink for half the price, but hubby wanted me to have one Tiffany blue box, so we bought a very over priced Fancy Yellow diamond ring. I even tried to talk him out of it. They had to send it to N.Y. for sizing, so I walked out of there with my blue box (white ribbon still untouched) their matching blue bag in a plain white bag because I didn't want to advertise for them while walking around Carmel. It still bothers me today that we paid as much as we did for that Tiffany ring. However, that ring led me to get my fancy intense yellow diamond bracelet from @Wink later so I guess that is a good thing.

Wish my husband would do that! since we are doing over the kitchen, no bling this year :( maybe next year but not a yellow diamond ring from Tiffany's fer sure.. I love your jewelry CFlutist!

I like to go to antiques fairs just for the jewellery. At one fair, a very camp gentleman who was manning one of the booths looked me up and down and said “Well look at you, all bedeacked and bejewelled!” He was starring at my diamond tennis bracelet and diamond eternity band combo on my left hand and wrist. I also had a vca sweet on the same wrist. “Ooh! And van cleef and Arpels!” He exclaims. I felt terribly embarrassed and mumbled something about it being the least expensive thing in the shop. His reply was “yes, but it’s still van cleef!” The man continued to stare at me as I looked at his diamonds in the cases. Then he said “I probably should say this but. . . . Are you a rap star or something?” I really didn’t know how to take this so I just ignored him. FYI I am black British with dread locks I always dress nicely. In the uk people don’t often wear much bling so maybe that’s why I got that reaction :roll

I didn't know you were in the UK!

I think we need to arrange a PS GTG over here :))

Yay! @OoohShiny another Brit! Yes I’d love to do a pricescope GTG. I always thought meeting at an antiques fair with lots of jewellery would work wonderfully but I know many people have tried in the past to organise GTG with poor results. I’m going to try and head to this antique fair in a few weeks. It’s easy for me because I’m up north https://www.antiquesforeveryone.co.uk/

Sorry for the thread jack folks
