When you find a bunch of your kid's selfies...

My son has an IPad he is allowed to take on the bus since he has a 40 minute ride home, apparently he likes taking selfies, A LOT.

I was sitting here one night and saw all these selfies and thought he didn't need that many pictures of himself. So I did what any good mother would do and doctored them up. Now it's become this fun little thing where I will surprise him with a new creation from time to time.

Thanks for all the love! Funny thing is he acts totally outraged that I do this but it's all an act because he loves the pictures.

I really don't understand this current obsession with taking pictures of oneself - does anyone go back and look at them? What do they think? 'Wow, I looked amazing'? (but now I look older and worse?) Or 'I look terrible' (why can't I look like someone else?)

Perhaps I'm just reflecting my own insecurities above but I just find this obsession strange and surely likely to lead to negative self image!

I hear you, and as an adult I don't get it, for kids I guess it's just a fun thing to do? I don't know but I said to him, what are you doing taking all these pictures of yourself, this is totally ridiculous! Now I swear he just takes them to give me more material to work with lol.

My kid used to take them in the bathroom. With no shirt. Flexing his muscles. Then he'd put them on Snapchat.

Who knows what he does now that he's 19. I hate to imagine.

@OoohShiny - I am reminded of Rembrandt's 100 self-portraits, each taking weeks or months of work ... It seemed such an unusual pursuit, before everyone did it !

Not entirely true. I guess perhaps I have mastered the "art of the selfie" haha what a questionable skill to master lol and I can take selfies with no arm involved. Especially earring selfies. Maybe too much hair in the shot but no arms.

Aww thank you Stephanie. I take that as a high compliment from you. My sense of humor is all I have left (life has a way of beating us up and gotta keep the sense of humor as best as we can) and I am hanging onto it for as long as I can.

And it bears repeating that I think you're a pretty awesome momma.
