Hi!

I''m a noob on these forums and after seeing all the experts and their helpful advice, I''m really glad PriceScope exists! After reading a lot of positive feedback on BrianGavinDiamonds, I went ahead and purchased this 1.002 H VS2 from Lesley at BGD, with a traditional 6-prong Tiffany setting.

I''m not really sure how to read the Idealscope image or the Hearts image, so I hope that you guys approve (please let me know if you don''t! haha). It looked really pretty.

But my main question is, should I get the stone independently appraised? Should that be before or after Brian sets the stone? How should I generally go about it? I''m located in the Boston area btw.

Thanks so much!

That diamond will be gorgeous

Appraisal depends on your comfort.. I personally would feel very comfortable trusting BGD to set the correct diamond, tell me if there were inclusions/durability issues, make sure there''s nothing wrong, then send it to an appraiser after being set so he/she could check the workmanship of the ring too.

I wanted to get the ring I bought independently appraised for 2 reasons. 1) for an appraisal comparison and 2) to make sure I got what I thought i was buying.

The good news was I did - exactly.

I also wasn''t so interested in an inflated appraisal because the cost to insure it will go up as well.

In my case where I''ll be having the ring custom designed for her. I asked about a another appraisal after the work is done - the answer I got was - at that point it is a different ring and the appraisal was based off of the basic setting I purchased for it.

In other words - yes.

I found my appraiser on this site, by going to resources then appraisers.

Ah Chasester,

If I understand you correctly, you are recommending I appraise it twice?

just once by an independent appraiser.

In my case the jeweler gave their own appraisal. I did an independent after I got it.
