Cut is still most important, right? Can you go lower in color and clarity? Please advise what will yield the most sparkle? TIA.

Indeed cut is still very important, depending on your preferences you could consider I or J colour ( GIA or AGS) and SI clarity, even some I1''s can be eyeclean or close to it and if eyeclean can make great earrings if well cut. Also it is very important to keep diamond studs clean to get the best sparkle as they can come into contact with skin oils etc which will dull them pretty quickly.

Thanks for the quick reply. If I decide to go w/a J color, is it better to have a strong flor?

Yes,cut is important no matter what the piece.Earrings are so popular that jewelers have many grades in stock ,but most carry lower grades to keep the price down. You can go lower clarity and color but be careful how low. Also try the earrings on to see how shadows created from hair length and the upper jaw affect the look of the stones.Pay attention to matching of the stones...that both are the same size and grade.also move the stones in your hand to see if there is equal amont of sparkle from each stone.

Love yours Jenn!

Personally I think you can go lower in color and clarity with earrings because they are usually viewed from a distance. So spend your budget on cut and size.

Some say strong blue can help a lower colour face up a bit whiter, so it could be a nice feature of a J colour certainly I think!

In stud earrings of average size, the fluor likely wouldn''t matter much.

Body color is more noticeable from the side view (which isn''t usually seen when diamonds are placed on the ears) and moreso in larger stones than in smaller stones as would be typically used for earring studs.

Unless you''re super-super-uber color sensitive, you should be fine with J stones for studs.
