How much wiggle room is really there as far as fitting another diamond in the setting? For example, if it was made for a stone that is 8.5x8.4, what measurements could you go up to or down to? And would the stone still look as good in the setting? I see a few on sale, and I am just wondering about that!

I would think Victor would be the best one to answer that.

I'd stay very close to the size of the stone that was in the setting for it to look it's best.

I have a preowned VC Emilya that was originally made for a cushion- even harder to match then a round! Honestly, the best thing I did was work with someone (in my case, Grace from Jewels by Grace) and I was actually able to sit with her, put different loose stones in the setting, ask questions about how it would look, etc.

My stone is not an *exact * fit but was very very close- My stone is 8.13 x 7.65, the original was 8.2 x 7.8. To me it looks great. Could it have been better if it was made exactly to my stone? Of course. But it works =)

I've been asked this question a lot since having my halo for sale... Obvi, it's best to get as close as possible to the original stone's size, but I've been told (by fellow PS members) that DK has made stones fit settings that most would swear wouldn't work... it just depends on the size stone and jeweler in question. Another variable would be tolerance for fit -- airline/overhang of girdle/etc.
