What do you think about a 3ct, F, excellent cut round stone being SI2? I could only see inclusions with the loup, not by naked-eye. Yet, one jeweler said SI2 is too low of a level for a 3ct stone. Is she just trying to sell me a better stone, because I figure if it can only be seen under 10x magnification than who cares! Could someone notice SI2 inclusions with their naked eye on a 3ct?

I have a 2.50ct stone that''s a VS2. When I went looking, I could not find one SI1 that was clean in that size range. A 3ct S12? umm, maybe? But the chances are very, very slim.

I would be less concerned about the grading report and more concerned with what my eyes tell me. It that stone is eye clean in different lighting conditions then you may have hit the jackpot for finding a nice stone at a good price.

Hi Samara

Yes, it is quite possible that inclusions can be seen with the naked eye in an SI2 clarity, especially in such a large diamond. Having said that, there are eyeclean SI2 clarity diamonds out there of large size, the key is to see the stone for yourself and inspect it in as many different lighting conditions as possible to make sure it is truly eyeclean TO YOU. I take it from your post that you have seen such a diamond in person and are interested in it? If so then I would make sure you negotiate a reasonable return period so you can give the diamond a good test drive and also with a purchase of this magnitude, get an independant appraisal during the return period. I take it this diamond is GIA graded? If the diamond IS eyeclean to you and you love it, then thats great if you have found such a large diamond of SI2 clarity!!

I don't know if you have come across this article but you will probably find it to be very helpful, written by Pricescope's Coatimundi -

What is an Eyeclean Diamond?

If you wish, post all the proportions of the diamond here and to include the details of the grade setting inclusions and we can look the diamond over for you.

Ditto! If it was completely eye-clean to me -I would jump for joy and buy it :)
