Two years ago I bought a white freshwater pearl set (7-8mm). The earrings and the bracelet are both fine. But I can see that the center of about 4-5 pearls from the necklace has become bluish lately. Does anybody know why? Does this mean that the rest of the pearls will turn bluish soon?

And BTW, I take really good care of them, so I don''t think I should blame myself

So, what do you think?

I''ve not heard of something like this happening.

You said the bluish color is only in the center of the pearl? Could it just be a reflection you''re seeing?

Could the color/luster of these few pearls be different from the others, and you are only now noticing?

I haven''t seen that either...

Do you wear the pearls next to a silver chain at the same time? I have seen a South Sea pearl completely worn away by a chain pendant which scratched the nacre back to the nucleated bead... but it was very obvious.

Sometimes pearls can become covered in body cream and attract dirt which makes them look ''greyer''... But it doesn''t sound like you would let them get that dirty...

Pearls don''t change colour by themselves.

Can you post a pic?

Thank you both for replying, Pearlie & Nacre!

Yes, it's only the center of few pearls and no, I never wore the necklace with anything else. I keep my pearls away from perfumes, hair sprays, creams etc. And the truth is I have worn the whole set twice or so

I guess their luster is different and I noticed it this past month...too late(to return it

Nacre, I guess I should find out how to post pics on this board. It would be interesting, plus I really want you so see this

I'll let you know.

If these few pearls are that noticeable, and bug you enough, you can always have the necklace restrung.

Julie.
