DH and I are taking his parents on a roadtrip and Las Vegas is one of the stops. DH and I are not gamblers at all, we would rather hang on to any money we have, but we''ve decided for this trip, we will set aside a little bit of money for blackjack and slots.(I''d love to buy my diamond studs

So, for inspiration, I was wondering if any PSers have won any money?

Not much, but the return was pretty high. I don''t gamble, so that''s probably why I don''t win.

At the venetian one year, TGuy and I went to a slot machine and stuck in 75 cents and won over $150. This is back when they took quarters (I hate that the machines no longer do, in case I want to stick in extra change). I hadn''t played slots in SOOO long that I was alarmed as it made all sorts of funky noise. I unthinkingly asked TGuy "Is it broken?" The woman who had been playing next to the slots shot me an irritated look and said, "No, you won." I was like, huh? The last time I played slots, if you won, change came out. But they had taken on the system of the tickets that print out.

We took the money and ran.

Ooohhh...that''s inspiring. I''d be happy with dumb luck!!!

In Vegas this year I partnered with a friend at the craps table (I know NOTHING about craps). I put in $100 and came out with $550!!! Total luck and I have no clue how it happened but it was great!!!

SO won 850$ in a casino on a cruise :)

The year I turned 21, I went to Vegas (of course) with friends twice, the second time we were there, I won 700 on the roulette table. That made for a great trip, however Ive never won anything again.

ETA- I totally hear you on not wanting to spend the money on gambling, DH and I are very frugal, so giving money away to a casino is the last thing I want to do. What we do when we have went with friends, is just stick to the cheapie slot machines and gamble SLOW. No need to compete with the old lady next to you who keeps eyeballing your machine, haha. That way, we still feel included with our friends and we dont break the bank. Win-Win. Hope you have agreat time.

SO and I went to a local casino for his 21st birthday. Neither of us had any idea what we were doing since neither of us had ever gambled before. We basically just started shoving dollar bills into the slots closest to the entrance. SO''s slot machine started making loud "dings" all of a sudden. He looked at me and said "What in the world is going on?". The cute little old lady broke the news to him....he won $1000! He had only put in $6, so I think it was a pretty good return.

We took a set amount of cash there with the intent of spending only that. To make sure we didn''t "over-gamble", we didn''t cash the winning tickets from the slots until we were ready to leave (we only paid slots...not experienced enough for the real games

). That way we spent what we came with and had zero opportunity to spend what we won. In the end, SO came out with a little over $1100 and I came out with $130, which was more than what I brought with me. The sad part was that I only won that because SO gave me his slot machine at one point and I won on the next draw.

I am so not a gambler, but hubby is a good poker player..

I think the most he has won at one time is a few thousand dollars.

The very first time I put money into a machine I won $675. {i used that money to buy a ring}. On my last trip to Atlantic City I came home with about $450.

Dh and I always win around $200-$300 each, then we quit once it covers the expense of a weekend trip to Vegas. Never tried to see the maximum amount we could win because we always quit while we''re ahead.

I play blackjack and Pai Gow Poker. He usually plays craps.

when i was young i used to gamble everyday at those illigal chinese gambling joints .i love to shoot craps if i go to Vegas, but haven''t been to Vegas in 10 yrs, guess i''m worn out from gambling cuz i started when i was a young teenager.

DH has won a few thousand before but then again he has also lost a few thousand. When I gamble, which is rarely, I try to break even. I think the most I have won before was $40 on a 25 cent poker machine. Vegas is a blast though. I love the shows.

I almost never gamble - I just hate it! It makes me nervous to have money on the line, even if it's a few bucks.

I used to play poker with friends in college, but I always lost

Then one day I played with some guys I had never played with before, and I beat all 8 of them! They were so mad, because they thought I didn't really know how to play. Hehe. I think I won about $50.

I've never actually gambled in a casino. I've been in a few, but I can never bring myself to part with money, even for the penny slots.

eta: A professor in college did an annual casino night at his house for the seniors in our major. I think we each started with $200 (fake of course) worth of chips and I played some blackjack and a few others games for low amounts through the night. There was a guy at the blackjack table, the husband of a woman whose father was a super famous prof in our department (if that made any sense). He kept putting down huge amounts and winning a lot, and then gave all of his money away to us students because we could buy prizes with our chips at the end of the night. He gave me at least $500 in chips! So that was my best night gambling

Personally, I have never won more than $100 on anything but I have been in the company of those that have.

My dad won $65000 on favourite numbers back in the 80''s which was a huge amount then.

A few years ago we stayed at the one and only casino in Perth for DH''s birthday and his family came up for Lunch on afternoon. MIL''s bf who is nearly 80 wanted to go into the casino to have ''one bet'' before lunch. For one reason or another I was the only one could take him in and we ended up at the roulette table. He pulled out $500 in cash, exchanged it for one chip and put it straight onto the black. He turned to me and said "love, if I win this I''m buying everyone lunch, if I don''t your paying''
well he won cashed in his $1000 chip and we were out of the casino in five minutes.

It was the biggest adrenalin rush I have ever felt and I wasn''t my own money! It was a great lunch too

I won about $14,000 five years back over the course of three weeks. Not bad for playing bingo... The money helped too because I was about eight months pregnant at the time. I haven't won money since probably because I no longer have the time for gambling.

$600 playing black jack. I don''t play often, so that was such fun. Most times I come out about $300. I give myself $200 to play with, and won''t add to it it if I am down... I am happy to walk away if I am down. I love it and go maybe once a year.

About $20 on a $2 horse race bet
My parents lived in Del Mar CA
i bet the long shots to place or show
but I was too cheap to bet over $2 or
I could have won hundreds but I just
enjoyed being able to pick em

I''ve won $175 at the tracks on one race.

DHs grandma won $3000 on a race this year.

$10 I think. On the weekly lottery. I''ve never gambled other than that.

I have won $300 playing Bingo at Foxwoods in CT. The most I''ve ever gotten out of the slots is $40.

I put a $100 bill into a $1 slot, and won $1000. I took the money and ran. haha.

I just remembered.

In the summer of 2001 I won about $8,000. at a church bazaar. My husband talked me into putting it into Verizon stock.

I lost it all on 9/11.

Nope. Well, I did win $3 once on a lotto ticket. I''ve gambled every time I''ve been to Vegas and like I mentioned in the other gambling thread, DH and I always allocate $100 to the slots and video/computer black jack. It''s a good amount b/c with the slots, it takes us HOURS to go through the money. Usually it lasts us two nights.

Once when passing through Vegas on our way to Colorado we won about 400. It really came in handy for our vacation. A few years ago we stopped at an indian casino just to see it, and I again put in a couple
dollars and won 250. Both times we took the money and ran. We used the 250. to help a son with his moving expenses.

I come from a family of gamblers. It broke up my parents marriage. One of my brothers inherited that lovely trait. He won 250,000. in a slot machine in the early 80''s. He shared a small bit with the family which was
generous of him, but in the end has nothing to show for it.

My limit is 20 bucks, and even after I lose that small amount I always think of stuff I could have spent it on!

Once in Vegas we were down about $700 and had about 2 hours before getting on a plane. We played blackjack at The Golden Nugget and won $900. Other than that we lose money whenever we go.
