many yrs ago i purchased a $5K item off E-bay,everything went smoothly, but i would NEVER again make sucha big purchase off of E-bay with all these scams going on nowadays.

Can''t remember, less than $500. I sold a first edition "Grapes of Wrath" for several thousand though.

I want to say $2,000. $2,500, $2,750 altogether?

I bought two amps and a preamp. I bought them from the same guy. I don''t remember the exact amount.

I was pleased with E-bay after that but I''m not really sure if I would do that again.

My hubby bought a VW Passat for $12,500. It was from a car wholesaler and you had the right of refusal when you came to examine the car. It was a terrific deal...the car was worth more like $17,000 as it was only a couple of years old at the time. The key to purchases on ebay is being smart about the seller. In a lot of ways, a seller with a known record, as on ebay, is a heck of a lot safer than a seller who places an ad in the paper. You have no knowledge about them.

tube or solid state amps? what brand?

Same for me! I bought my diamond OEC ring from Ebay but since I was scam for a 500$ ruby ring and I became careful.

My car.. about 5k 5yrs ago.

Private auction, worked out quite well. Had some minor problems that were undisclosed (like the hole in the roof on the driver's side, still not quite sure how they managed that

) but on the whole I got an 8yo car w/ 50k miles for a whole lot less than my other options at the time, even counting a few k in repairs.

I have never purchased ANYTHING from ebay! (Omg!) However, my dad and his brother run a very lucrative sports memorabilia ebay store, have done so for probably close to 12 years, and my brother has had his ebay store for 9 years (and is now a SAHD). All of them deal in items that sell for thousands and of course they have negative stories but mainly positive ones. My brother sold my e-ring for me last fall for well over what I''d have gotten for it selling it privately or to a pawnshop or wholesaler, due to his positive feedback, etc. He doesn''t deal in anything remotely close to jewelry and that was the first piece he''d ever sold, yet it went in one week with no glitches. Despite all the scammers, there are plenty of ebayers who are on the up-and-up. I think as a novice you have to be extremely educated and learn as much as you can before you delve into buying high-dollar items on ebay, but it can be done successfully.

Around $400. I''ve bought a couple of platinum rings and a wedding dress on there. I''m not sure what was most expensive.

I bought a Louis Vuitton purse there and since I was worried it about it''s authenticity, I took it to the store and they verified it.

My first ever eBay purchase was the most expensive. $1200 for a replica full sized dive helmet.

Shortly after I made the second most expensive item I ever bought on eBay, my first diamond ring. It was a .63 Marquise cut for $600 about 8 years ago. I loved it to death, until I got my ering and realized what diamonds should be like!

Nowdays I don''t buy alot off eBay.

It was $600 for an OMC diamond ring set in rose gold.
The seller was a long time eBay vendor I had confidence in.

I bought a full set of Christofle silver flatware off Ebay. I would do so again. No one would bother counterfitting such an item.

I'm pretty sure..it is my Elgin vintage watch - which was just stolen en-route to me through Canada Post

actually, probably about the same amount for some OEC's, transitional diamonds - but the watch is all I can think about just now, lol!

A USN Mark V by chance?

I bought a brand new snowmobile from eBay in 2004. Great deal, I had spoken to the seller a few times and was confident it was legit. Don''t think I''d do it these days though.

I paid $745 plus shipping and insurance for a platinum and diamond ring 3 years ago. I was so skeptical about the price I had it appraised, and it was actually worth closer to $3,000.

So that was a pleasant surprise but I think $1,000 is my limit since I am so wary of scams.

We''ve bought tons of stuff on ebay, including home renovation materials - kitchen appliances, a pedestal bathtub that shipped cross county, snow blowers, bathroom faucets, Macs, the list is endless. Very positive experience with them all. When our wall oven and microwave/convection oven arrived damaged, the seller sent a return vehicle to pick it up and sent a replacement, all within a few days. For big ticket items like a used car, we viewed it locally and purchased it.

Overall, I''ve had very positive experience with ebay, and found good prices.

a digital video camera about 8 years ago. cost about $650. but i used paypal, and got charged twice, and my meager freshly graduated from high school bank account couldn''t handle the double charge, so it became a big hassle. but overall, it was a nice camera!

A three stone diamond ring for about $2800. I''ve never had a bad experience, but you do have to pay attention to feedback.

I have been buying on eBay for 13 years and never had a bad experience.
But you do have to read the feedback, especially the positive.
Often they are negatives in disguise:

"Shipping took 30 days but worth the wait".

"Color not as shown and smaller than expected but OK for the price".

"Gem is an Iolite not a Sapphire but will keep".

"Ruby synthetic. Seller gave refund".

Well, interestingly enough, the most expensive item I bought on eBay was diamond earrings for $660. After I bought them, I began googling around and that''s how I came about reading on forums that ended up directing me to PS.

Starbucks Barista Italia Digital Espresso Machine NIB $799 in store $1,000. BEST PURCHASE EVAR!

I haven''t bought many expensive things on ebay. Probably the biggest was a coach bag for about $150. DH however has gotten some great deals! He bought my vintage plat and diamond watch last year for $500 and he bought our ''71 MG Midget for $8k.

My Beaudry ring for $1,000. Although it turned out to be a great find, it was stressful and I don''t think I''d spend that much money on ebay again. The stress in that case was worth it though...I still ADORE this ring.

Ditto. My hubs buys/sells art on Ebay, and at times, the transactions are pretty pricey. None over $2000 though.

my husband buys/sells guitars/amps on ebay constantly...I think the largest $$ was ~5k? Has never had a problem. I got scammed buying an ipod a few years back though, someone was selling non-existent ipods and 5-6 people bought one...got our money back (or most of it) from ebay (not the loser running the scam) through the complaint process fairly easily.

My biggest purchase was probably only $200-$300. I did sell a 1967 Mustang....I think that was about $8 or 9k...

I bought a gazebo for $900 last year, it was missing a few parts but the seller sent them right away with no problem. I''ve done several other purchases in the $500 range, and have not had any truely terrible experiences, just a few bumps. Seliing items was the worst though! I had one item that ended up being listed 3 times due to non-paying bidders

.

I think the most expensive was a Ralph Lauren dresser for about $2,500, which was a great deal since it was about $3k off retail, brand new. I''ve bought a couple of authentic designer bags, but I''m very, very careful.

TG, I love your beaudry ring! Wow! I got a good deal on some 18k Tiffany earrings for my mom a few years back, but other than that I haven''t bought any jewelry off of Ebay.

Me too. Actually, this was my first purchase EVER on Ebay.

Had the LV checked and it was authentic. Would never do it again though.
