If you can get a really good price on a stone, what''s the highest HCA score you would consider? I think I read that some stones below 3 may be worth considering if you look at the idealscope image? Is there a certain score that you should not even bother considering?

If you can see an idealscope you don''t need the HCA at all. Ideal scope trumps HCA. But if I am calling in stones to consider I would still make 2 my cut off.

ditto.

I''m going to be able to see the stones in person. So if the idealscope looks good then it doesn''t matter if the HCA score is 3, 4?

within reason... :P Too small or big a table, too small or large a crown angle... Idealscope only tells you the light reflection performance.

Yes, and I think even if you see them in person you should run the numbers through the HCA as another tool to help you out since you may not be experienced in interpreting the IS images!

It always comes down to images and expert advice to me, not the HCA score and the proportion configuration of the diamond.

3 if the stone is as per usual for a 3.0 - i.e. slightly steep crown or deep pavilion or combination, but table below 58% and the symmetry is tight (a little painting can help too).
But 4????

Hmm the problem with this question is that it is possible one that scores 3.x that I would buy and one that scores 2.2 that I would not is very possible.
When shopping in person getting an ideal-scope or ASET scope can help a lot.
