What''s the deal with Obama starting a militia?

Well, I DID mention this (this being the domestic deployment of the army) in a thread I opened a while back, and got very little real comment before the thing evolved into a discussion of the right to bear arms and our form of government (for the benefit of the Aussies here). The one comment that I do recall clearly, was the one about tin foil and investing in Alcoa, indicating that maaaaybe I was being just a teensy paranoid. I''m not, but if people want to be in denial of the REAL erosion of our protections, then I can''t do much about that. I just put it out there. I drone it like a mantra: Power once granted is rarely relinquished. I''m certain McCain wouldn''t have. I had, and still have, hopes that Obama MIGHT. Might restore the safegaurds that Bush has destroyed. This is the chance I took on him. Hopefully he won''t abuse the signing statements like Bush did, but we shall see.

If Obama is truly proposing this, he will need to be stopped. Period. If he seriously trots this out, I will be as vociferously against him for it as I was and am against Bush for not just proposing it but actually DOING it. The precedent has already been set people, make no mistake. It will probably never be used, but the barn door is now standing wide open, and that DOES scare the willies out of me.

That said, I think at this point the Obama thing is a tempest in a teacup - it is a far cry from a soundbyte during a campaign to actual execution, and of far less concern than what Bush has already set in motion, and made possible.

Holly - what specifically makes you believe that Obama is "in over his head''? I''m not asking you to be snarky at all, I''m really interested in what facts you''ve seen about Obama that would make you believe that about him. I''m wondering how you got to feel that way. Thanks!

I think that''s the problem . . . there aren''t any ''facts''. What do any of us know about this man and his ability to lead? We know he can incite, enthrall, and energize people; but what else? Even the media who followed him around throughout the campaign, and traveled with his campaign, say they know only superficial things about the man -- nothing of real substance. Wouldn''t you think, after eight or nine months of being in close quarters and right in the thick of things, they might have formed an opinion about him? And yet, they say they can''t. Why??

IMO, he has shown more than a bit of naivete when it comes to foreign policy and how to deal with some countries (witness his rather silly comments during the Russian/Georgian skirmish), and some of those ''less than friendly to American'' leaders out there (he would sit down and just talk to them; like Carter, ''cause that worked really well back in the day).

You know, nothing I can easily put my finger on. Just an uneasy feeling. Sort of like the last four years of Shrub.

I''m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Right now. We''ll see. I''m certainly not gaga over his staff picks at this point; doesn''t look like ''change'' to me. Looks ''same old, same old''.

Personally I find it very interesting because I was raised Greek Orthodox and the Book of Revelations was not emphasized at all. In fact I specifically remember being told that we will not know the time and hour of his return, and speculating on that is really not something we should be doing.

The Anti-Christ loonies need to bone up on their ''end times'' stuff. The AC is supposed to be European, not an American. At least that''s what the AC loonies have been preaching for the last 30+ years. How did they overlook that detail?

I''ve actually printed it out and given it to some people who have been so kind as to warn me that the Anti-Christ is now in office.
