What''s the deal with dyed pearls?

I thought that dyed pearls would fade over time. Then I saw some pearls that were described as being "permanently" dyed or color changed. So is it really permanent or do these fade also?

Dyed pearls, as far as I know shouldn''t change colors.

I have some dyed pearls from China, they haven''t faded so far. My dresser top is in direct sunlight and I''ve had the pearls there since starting to go to China 9 yrs ago, no fading. I love the crazy colors and they are just so cheap! It would be wonderful to be able to afford Tahitians, but in the meantime...dyed ones work.
