What''s the best type of pendant setting to really show off a round stone?

I have a 1 carat OEC solitare ring, originally from my great-grandmother, sitting in a safety deposit box at home. I''m thinking about making it into a necklace, but I''m clueless about the different setting options available. I really like the necklaces where the diamond is part of the necklace instead of hanging off like a pendant.
