I would take the bigger diamond any day of the week!

1.5 is a killer size............

Definitely number 1.. although I'm assuming it's not an EC but RBs that we're discussing.

1.5 is the BEST size (since that's what I have

)... Just my personal taste as of now seeing the coverage of my loose diamond on my hand. When it finally comes back in my setting I might have a different size I prefer, possibly smaller if it comes back looking big on my small fingers.

I also agree with the statement of only liking three stones if the sidestones are significantly smaller to make the centerstone POP.

Hi Dreamer, I vote for 3 stone although I don''t think you could go wrong with either choice. Try some on and see how they feel. I''ve seen a three stone ring with the carat weight you are thinking and it had some serious finger coverage!!!!

Like ltlfirecracker 1.25 is my sweet spot and I would prefer it as a solitaire. 1.5 is just a smidge too much for me as I don't like to just see "rock" - that is not a common concern around here or with you though from what I understand!!!

And three stone rings are too busy for my own hands (though I have seen your past experiment taping paper to your fingers and three stones seem to look nice on you!).

But in general....my thought is wait until you don't feel you are compromising or making up for something you cannot have (2ct solitaire) with a temporary patch (like a three-stone or a lower colour). I am not sure you would be thrilled with either or you would already know which you wanted...KWIM?

I will be interested in hearing how your colour comparison shopping goes this weekend!

OTHER.

I'd shoot for something like a 1.4 ct center (G, SI1 ideal), .50 ct (x2) sides.

An I color would drive me batty, even just inside my own head, so I''d go for the G three stone!

Yep, if it was a 1.7 J SI1 (like from BGD:-) I''d go with that (in the BGD Grace, Sholdt plain semibezel, or a leon mushroom pave setting)

This!

Dreamer, I am trying to choose between 1.5ish/G-H/SI1 or 1.7ish/I/SI1 for myself right now, and I can''t seem to make up my mind! But, between 1.25 and 1.5, I would go for 1.5 solitaire. No question about it. My next purchase was going to be 1.5ct or larger, so this was pretty easy to answer

I voted option 1. I would get the biggest solitaire I could as you would have the rest of your life to add on and do a 3 stone later. I think a thin shank would make a big difference in making the diamond appear larger. If you do the larger stone now you will have the 3 stone to dream about for the future instead of being done forever...LOL...

I''d choose Option 3: A 1.5 I SI1 in the Sholdt or other semi-bezel with a wide shank because (since this is about me right?) thin shanks don''t look good on my short, size 6.25 fingers.

I didn''t choose the 3-stone option because I prefer larger sidestones.

I am biased, but I love a beautiful diamond in a simple solitaire, so I would go with option 1. On the flip side, I wouldn''t go lower than an H in color, but that is just me.

If you aren''t too color-sensitive, hands down option 1!

Since setting my 1.8 in a solitaire, I have found I am not a solitaire girl, so I voted the 1.25 G in a 3 stone (ideally with side pears). I like a blingier setting. Or an option not on the list, a 1.25 in a halo.

GO BIG!!!! Solitaire

my vote.

I''m sure you can guess what I voted...the biggest rock you can afford! I am a little color sensitive, but it''s not extreme. For what it''s worth, once a stone is mounted, I can''t really see any color in an I. When I was deciding between I and J for my latest upgrade, I looked at both stones *mounted* because I decided that''s how I''m going to see it. I never saw a bit of color in any of the mounted, certified I stones I looked at.

As for the Sholdt setting you''re considering, I know that it''s a wider band, but I like how it flares out as it comes to the diamond. I wonder if that would also make your diamond appear larger since the eye would be drawn up to the stone?

This has always been what I have felt about those types of flared settings. It is really my favourite look, when the ring widens to meet the diamond. My only concern would be the completely exposed pavilion view and whether it would show more color. We shall see.

I am going to the big ol'' city this weekend and will look at some diamonds in various colors in the 1.5 to 1.7ct range. Although I love my G and the K was too tinted, I am not acutally such a color snob. I like all diamonds. But I need to find the right balance for me -- size and color and clarity.

I voted option 1.. bigger and keeping it in a solitaire
2.gif

Well, since you asked...

Honestly, I would not pick either for myself. Now this is just a thought, and feel free to disagree, but you''ve been doing back and forward between solitaire and three stone with the odd detour via halo. If it was me, I think I would go back to reconsider the basics.

As I say, just a thought, but is it possible you''d get more of the wow factor I think you''re hankering after from a fancy shape?

Jen

I voted for option 1 - I acually had a 3 stone and decided I didn''t like it and switched to a solitare, so this is based on my actual experience.

For sure the 1.5 ct. because of its sleek, classic design. I''m a huge fan of solitaires and love that the single diamond is the main attraction.

I didn''t read the responses, but I''m not comfortable going to an I in a stone over a carat.

I think what I would "maybe" do, is upgrade to a LARGE 5 stone
2.gif

I picked the 3 stone for higher color and overall more bling. 1.5cttw vs. 1.85 cttw. I have large fingers so a three stone gives me more coverage. My 3 stone is .40/1.21/.40

1.5 is a very generous size! There are many large, beautiful stones here on price scope but the average woman doesn''t even have a 1 carat. I would love to have a 1.50 but I am color sensitive and I cant afford to have my cake and eat it too! I have had an I and a G color diamond so an I color would bother me . That 2 color ranks will have a big impact to someone who is color sensitive.

I am going to be in the market for a new engagement ring soon and I think G SI1 is a perfect combination to get the most for your money and still get a nice white, eye clean stone. As for your poll, I would pick stone B but I would pick the simple A setting

I think there is a confound in my experimental method
2.gif
Color and size and setting are all confounded. I wonder how many people are choosing the large solitaire just because they like solitaires? I suppose the option of the smaller stone with the solitaie exists, but it is not my favourite option

Definitely I''m choosing solitaire because I think it is always a classic. If you reset it, you have more options.

If you''re not feeling strong about one or the other, wait. Spend the weekend trying on the bling but even if you love one wait until the next day to make a decision. You love lots (understandably!) but don''t seem really decided.

So I saw some diamonds today. Didn''t get to assess color really, but got to compare sizes. !,5 is really not noticably bigger than 1.25!

My experience is that it is also not really a visible jump, other than saying you have a 1.5
37.gif

I think you should stick to solitaires until you hit 2 carats. Then stick it in a three stone. Largest H you can afford gets my vote.

I know, it's depressing!
