Option 1: A 1.5ct (7.4mm) I SI1 in a sleek and simple solitaire with a thin shank

Option 2: A 1.25ct (6.85mm) G SI1 in a simple three stone ring with .30ct side stones


Option 1 would cost about $500 more than Option 2.

If you would like to tell me why you made your choice it would be nice too!

I meant to tell you, my sapphire is set in a 3mm x-pronged ring. So I do like thicker shanks. But with the thicker shanks, I like to wear them solo. In 6 months, my e-ring will no longer be solo.

.9 is too small for me. That is what my FI was planning on getting me until we went to Tiffany''s and saw it on my hand. He said he was secretly cursing because he realized if he got me that size I would do a pave band or something else, and he loves solitaries.

If those were the only 2 choices, I would do the 1.2 I. 1.25 cts is my sweet spot. I know I am crazy for thinking a 1.5 is too big, I am not sure what is wrong with me

I went with door number one: I love size, and I love warmth.

I''m actually not a big fan of the three-stone look unless we''re talking a round with baguettes, pears, or marquise - the diminishing replication of the round-round-round always seems truncated to me unless they continue to taper.

That''s purely aesthetic, of course: on a practical level, I know you want to go to 2ct. eventually, and I think this gets you a little closer! If you find the right stone, someday down the line perhaps you could halo, and see if that satisfies you for longer then you might imagine ....

I really like that ring from BGD that you are consdiering. I had not seen it before and I think it looks really delicate and elegant.

Not and keep my upgradable diamond

I am going to view loose stones this weekend in that size range and will see how color sensitive I really am. That will help.

I have been watching you and your thoughts for your upgrade. You seem to be a solitaire girl. And I agree with others you can always bling it up with bands later. Though I thought I have read that you like WHITER stones so it would really depend on how the "I" showed for you.

I voted for option one because in general I prefer a solitaire to a 3 stone and I am comfortable with warmer coloured diamonds. I also think that the 1.5-1.7 range is a really good size.

I would pick the stone in option 2 in a solitaire or paved stone setting. I don''t really like the 3 stone setting. I want my center stone to stand out. I don''t think I would be ok with anything less than G.

I voted for the first option. Personally, i never liked the three stone style, regardless of the bling factor...it''s just not me...But i''ve got the impression that you too prefer solitaires and i wouldn''t want you to give up on the style that you prefer. Not to mention that contrary to me, i know for a fact that you give a lot of significance to size and if i remember well, you don''t have any intention to upgrade again ever...(or any time soon anyway!). I think that you should get the size that would make you really happy for the years to come, plus, i believe too that the thinner shank will accentuate the (already big) size of your diamond and make it pop out and look huge! As far as the color is concerned, i know that you weren''t feeling happy and comfortable with your previous K and you were thrilled with the color of your G stone. Nevertheless, i honestly believe that an I color RB diamond with an exquisite cut, will face up very white and sparkly. I personally wear an E color diamond but i have noticed that i feel comfortable wearing any color from a D to an I. That''s exactly where i stop. Up to the I color i feel alright. For some reason, i have noticed that it is the J and K color that i can''t deal with...after that, i coul easily move to an L, M or an N and i would feel very well with the distinguished warmth that they have, because that''s a totally different style. And as it was very well put on a previous post, keeping your diamond BIG

and the rest of the ring very simple and plain (like the sleek, simple solitaire setting with the thin shank), will give you all the freedom in the world to wear it with all kinds of eternity, half eternity, plain bands...whatever you like, without looking odd and over the top (in the bad way...). I voted for the bigger solitaire. Why? Because it will give you the most options.

1. Bigger look especially with the slimmer shank.
2. Three quarters of the way to being a 2 carat vis upgrades.
3. The I''s I have seen on here have convinced me that you can go this far down the scale and still have a very acceptable good looking white stone.
4. If you do eventually go for a 3 stone your centre one will be bigger!
5. I think you are a solitaire girl at heart!

OK, so what if it was a 1.7ct J SI1? What would you vote for then?

I or J, I''d keep the G and do nothing until I had the money for a larger diamond of G or better. I know I''d not like a J that large b/c I already have almost a 2ct J so I know what that looks like. I color might be okay up to 1ct RB but I''d probably not choose it, either. I now own a 1.35ct F and I''d never go back to lower colors to get a larger stone. If I upgrade or purchase again, a really high G is the lowest I''d consider. I think that the whiter colors also look bigger to my eye, because they are brighter.

I chose the solitaire simply because I don''t like 3-stone rings at all. Depending on the cut I might downsize a but and get a little better color, though. But a well cut I should face up nicely.

I like solitaires, so I would get a larger solitaire for an upgrade. I would probably only go up to an I because a J seems too tinted for me. Although I have to admit, I''m loving my J more and more. It''s a beautiful stone, and it just shoots fire everywhere. If I could never upgrade again, I could be happy with this stone forever.

I picked B. I think that 1.5 is too big for my fingers (kid sized hands literally) but also because I really don''t like the coloring from the I-J-K area of diamonds. I prefer them to be G and above for colorness or starting around M for warmth. That''s just a region of colors I personally do not care for.

I also am not as much of a fan of solitares on a think shank. I prefer either a Lucida type setting or with side stones.

I would normally choose the larger solitaire vs the 3 stone but I am color sensitive so in this case I chose the 3 stone G color. However if the color doesn''t bother you I would choose the larger solitaire.
