I am ebaressed to post this, but I really need to know what you would do.

Ok, I picked out a stone and a setting at union . They said it would take two weeks to make the setting.

The stone is H VS1, but egl europe. She says she compared it to Gia H and they looked the same. Granted the
stone is on the small side of a 1.01 in that it the dimensions are 6.3 something by 6.28

I have not paid yet but they are already making the setting.

I was looking at white flash, and found a smaller but nice, .78 E SI1 Ideal AGS that was .4 on the numbers chart, and looks spectacular. Now I want that stone, lol but I would feel so bad backing out of the union one as I did already order the setting to be made for the specs of the stone I ordered.

What would you do? This is a one time purchase and I want the rite thing, but I also dont think it would be rite of me to back out of the other one, after having the setting ordered, lol I guess, as my nature is, I will probably end up doing the rite thing,
and go with what I originaly ordered.

Anwway, appreciate your thoughts .

Could you just keep the setting you already ordered but tell them you no long want that diamond, then send the setting to WF and have them set the other stone in it?

If not, I''d go with what you really want. I would feel bad too if I was in your situation, but you the most important thing is that you are happy with your ring.

Im not sure if they can do that with this setting. Its a semi bezel, tension like setting, so Im guessing that it would be made
for the stones specks. Mabey Im wrong. Mabey someone here knows.

Jensia,

How complicated is the setting? Is it a standard 4/6 prong head? If so, you could cancel the stone at Union, go ahead and purchase the setting, and perhaps WF could switch the heads out to fit the .78ct ideal. Go with the stone you want, or you''ll regret it!

I didn''t see your reply until after I''d posted.

When did you order the setting?

Here is a picture of the setting. I had it posted in another post. The top will be rounded instead of straight sides.

forgot to add, I ordered it almost two weeks ago, so its almost done. Im purchasing this week.

Jensia,

You might want to contact the people at Whiteflash (www.whiteflash.com) and tell them about your dilemma. If the setting can''t be altered, would you be happy with the other diamond? Are you out a ton with this setting?

Talk to the pros. They can give you better advice than I can. Good luck!

Personally, I think you made a commitment to the jeweler, they made a custom setting for you and they are probably moments from setting the stone. If you have doubts about the stone, I would recommend you should speak with the jeweler and express your concerns and let them do whatever is necessary to help you be happy with your purchase. If they are reputable, they likely have a reasonable return policy (do they?) anyway, so working with them before they are fully finished with what you ordered could solve your problem.

Just my .02..........

Yes they do have a return policy. Not on the custom band, but on the diamond. I really am happy with the stone I picked out, it took me a long time to choose. So thats a good idea. Wait until I see it,lol

I guess with the whiteflash one I have the advantage of seeing it first.

Numbers very greatly though. On that scale the small one is a .4 and the one i ordered is a 2.3 on the cut advisor, with very good in three catagories and excellent on fire. But the one I ordered has a hearts and arrows pattern so I am guessing it really cant be cut bad if thats the case, and its vs1, and Im a clarity nut more so though than color.

I have thought of just biting the bullet on the setting, but my budget wont allow it. The sales lady I am working with, I brought up a couple smaller better color stones etc up in the same price range but when she compared them, said the one I initaly picked looks better, so yeah, I guess I will go with what I ordered. If the diamond turns out to be a dog, I can always return it,lol

By the way, what is the price scope discount everyone talks about? What vendors offer it? Thanks:))

Guess im a little nervouse as the big day is almost here, lol

This is a dog eat dog world and these are huge businesses you''re dealing with here, not grandma''s bakery down the street. Do what you want. If you really want the second ring you found, get it. Otherwise you will probably always be thinking about it and wishing you had it. Your engagement ring should be exactly what you want within your budget, so if you have seen it elsewhere, go for it. Just politely call the first place and tell them you need to cancel your order. You don''t have to explain anything to them since nothing is in writing and no money has been paid. If they ask why, say that you would rather not discuss it, then they may just think you and your bf broke up or that you''re having financial problems. You would not be lying, just leaving it up to them to guess as to why you want to cancel your order.

Then you can have the ring you want and not have to deal with the first place. Thats the kind of manipulation I would use to get the ring I wanted, and I would not feel guilty at all.

Won''t you feel more guilty everytime you look down at the ring you settled for and think about how much you cheated yourself?

Put YOU first and get what you want!!!

personally-you need to honor your commitment to Union. They cant be losing money b/c you have changed your mind. The stone is one thing but are obligated on the setting. Perhaps you find a stone elsewhere that fits into the setting they are making for you............

i hope all Pricescope vendors read your post and avoid you like the plague........................................thats a terrible attitude. The pricescope vendors offer wonderful services , time, and discounts and you would advocate screwing them.....................working with them is one thing--asking their help--stopping work on the mounting and finding a slightly better stone etc etc --there are other solution than just being a selfish person

I am not advocating screwing anyone. All I am saying is that she should get what she wants. My family owns a business and we completely understand situations like this. If you find a better deal (or product) take it. I wouldn''t think the company would begin on a setting without some partial payment if they expected this to not happen.

Jewelers make things that customers don''t accept all of the time, I believe they can either try to sell it to someone else or melt it back down.
The jeweler I am working with is making a custom setting and has a policy that if I don''t want it, I don''t have to take it.

I''m sorry that you feel the way you do about me, that was not my intention at all. It''s very quick of you to judge however.

re-read your post....and hers. she said she hadnt paid them yet and you basically said do whatever it takes to get what you want..............

I sincerely hope you will not take Couture's advice seriously. What a sad testimony to our society to be so willing to take advantage of a company, all because we think we could do better elsewhere. Maybe the reason I'm not higher up in my company, or don't make more money is I am perhaps loyal to a fault. My company has been very good to me and while other companies have come along and offered more responsibility, or higher pay, I remember how my employer has stuck by me, even during troubled times.

Perhaps we have become products of our disposable society. Buy a new cell phone. It breaks and even if we have a warranty, many of us would rather have the newer design and we'd get the new phone and throw the old one away. Even I have done this myself. But when it comes to a purchase like this. And when you are dealing with a reputable company who is making an investment to your specifications, I think you have a responsibility to be LOYAL to them and give them the opportunity to make you happy with your purchase.

If you don't like what you had them make. Or you don't believe the quality of what you committed to is what you want, give them the opportunity to make it right. Only then, if they will not or can not provide you what you want, should you take your business elsewhere.

Agg, I didnt mean to get anyone upset. I am going to stay with what I choose to begin with. They really have been working well with me. Like I said, if it looks bad I will return the stone as I would anywhere that would sell a stone I thought was ugly, lol

But I do get the imression this stone looks really good for the price. The smaller stone is only 200 dollars cheaper so they are roughly the same price and whiteflash wants to charge 750 for the band that union is charging 400. Plus if this stone did not work, Im sure union would be a little more willing to find one that fit the settnig or readjust it to fit another. I also like that the stone is slightly deeper as I want that for the look the tension will bring to it.
It is 62.8 . I dont think that overly deep, and deep enough for the look I want. SOOO anyway,... thanks for your opinions.
I just had to think that one out:)

Even if I choosen not to get the stone, I would have still bought the setting just because I ordered it and it wouldnt be rite any other way.

I don''t think anyone is upset with you Jensia. You asked for advice and whether anyone can agree with all the advice that has been offered, it certainly sounds like you are a decent person and you will do the right thing. That''s all anyone can hope for anyway. Treat others the way you would like to be treated and you will rarely mess up in life. Of course if you hope to be hit for no reason, then you would likely go around hitting people first. Doesn''t sound like you are that type of person at all.

Good for you!

actually i believe that there is usually a way to make everyone happy.............so i am sure Union could find you a stone that you thought better if it came down to it OR tweak the setting to accomodate maybe a slightly larger stone............i think you are nervous but your stone sounds very nice.........and 62.8 is deep for ideal but not overly deep in general. Deeper stones can be more brilliant and have more oomph. I bought a slightly deep stone myself for the same reason

I feel so bad now, everyone''s mad at me for my post. If this was an in-person conversation I really don''t think you all would think so badly of me. I am sorry if I offended anyone, it''s just my opinion and it has a lot to do with the culture of where I live and the way things are done here.

I hope you can understand that people''s perspectives are different based on life expereinces. I respect everyone''s and I hope I can be forgiven by fellow pricescopers.

I love this website and I love hearing all of your stories and seeing your pictures. You all have been such a valuable piece in my own search for the perfect ring!

I''m happy you decided to stick with your first stone. I bet it will turn out to be a real beauty! I know how it can feel looking for diamonds and settings and trying to find the best deal for the best diamond. I changed my mind at least 100 times and my FI was getting impatient. After he ordered my ring, I was afraid I''d regret not getting something else, but I love my ring so much, I can''t belived I ever considered getting anything else and I bet you''ll feel the same way.

Im sure I will. I am one of those people that over worry about everything. I used to be in a band and never got nervouse until it was 1 minuit to go on stage. I guess its the same thing here, lol All this time it took me, and now the curtain is going to open:) D day approaches, ,lol not dooms day but diamond day:)

Kat: Just don't step out of line like that again, and we will forgive your little transgression........

PS: Everyone's entitled to their opinion and I hope I speak for everyone when I say that while we may not have agreed with you, we do agree that you have the right to say what you think, regardless of anyone's reaction. Just know that PS'ers are a pretty honest lot, and if they don't agree with you, they'll shoot right back. Thank you for your perspective and always feel a warm and enthusiastic welcome!
