What were you like in high school?

Early HS I was nice, shy, smart, good attendance. Later HS I was still nice shy and smart, except I skipped school like no tomorrow haha. I would still show up to ace the tests. I lived close to the school, so I would literally just leave and go home and come back when I felt like it :shifty::oops: I just hated the traditional teaching methods of sitting all day listening/memorizing. I had the same friend crew, we were the yearbook nerds haha. Was definitely not popular, but was not an outcast. Just kept to myself/small group of friends.

Now, I'm less nice, still shy and definitely don't feel as smart! I still have a small group of close friends that I prefer to large groups/fringe friends.

Reading all these responses is so interesting, it's like getting to know the people I "talk" to the most in life.

Mrs. B that is one amazing story right there, i greatly admire anyone who didn't fit "in the box" in high school because it's kind of tough to standout and not be ridiculed for it. I love your picture and you were not fat! Isn't it crazy how critical we can be of ourselves in the moment?

One thing I distinctly remember from high school was the first encounter with my best friend (No longer friends, we had a fallout last year). I transferred schools when I moved in with my brother who is significantly older than me and she approached me and I basically asked her why she was being so nice to me! No lie I was baffled by her kindness, like okay girl what do you want from me and keep it moving. We ended up being really good friends, she was big into religion so I would go to bible study with her (to meet guys). She actually saved me from a suicide attempt. So yeah, oddly she did not write in my yearbook, kind of ironic considering how things turned out.

Angsty? Good marks, active social life, instigator, always laughing. Shy and quiet seeming but actually just never got caught. Dreamed up the whole senior prank and party, and then didn't attend. Weirdo.

I was the typical smart shy girl. I was stick thin and beyond timid. I had a serious love affair with books (still do). Good grades but always that damn "does not participate" not on every report card. I had my small group of friends and made it through relatively unscathed. :mrgreen2: Most of my friends were in band but not me. I tried band in middle school and quit straight out the moment they said "mandatory " concert. I'm not the kind of girl that likes to be in front of a crowd. I actually won an award in school and wouldn't even show up for the ceremony. :confused2: I have not been to a reunion and I never will.

I never attended one sporting event (I'm sorry. Did you say coordination is required?) and was proud of the fact that I had never attended a dance there either. I lost that self made "cool" ranking when I attended senior prom with my bf (now DH). I'm lucky enough to have met my DH in my senior year. :kiss2:

I would say that overall, I was blissfully unaware of other students. I very rarely recognize anyone I went to school with (even though my DH see's them and points them out often). Apparently, I earned the nickname "Ice Queen" in high school, though I didn't know that until after it was over. :lol-2:

They were referring to your love of diamonds

I was third in my class. Quiet, in a land of J Crew catalogs I wore combat boots with my skirts.

My 20th was held at a bar in a restaurant that 15 rSVP'd to. My friend wanted to go to the bar to meet her bro and cousin so we got there thinking we'd miss the reunion (7-9pm, we arrived at 10pm). No such luck. Only 2 of the girls said hi to us. The guys were cool. Two of my friends were surprised at how charming and flirty I am, and commented that I had charmed all the guys. I was like, errr that's me being friendly. When I flirt its very aggressive and scary bahahahahah.

somehow 5 of us shut down the bar and ended up wth drinks in plastic cups with lids and straws sitting on the patio behind the restaurant watching the waves crash. The guys who tried to be debaucherous were lame. Most of my classmates did not stray far from home, nor did they expand their circle of friends beyond the HS ones even when they moved away. I kinda found it hilarious when the guys would try to push my limits and I just said go ahead, nothing you can say will offend me. I'm limitless:loopy:. I mean, seriously, I've heard the same BS in colllege lolol... maybe they'd have better inappropriate things to say if they got out of this small inbred town... (end rant).

Naaah, just unemployed people who sit on jewelry forums throwing out racist one-liners.

1000 bonus points to Dancing Fire for sharing a pic :mrgreen2:

Anyone else comfortable enough to share their yearbook or a high school picture?

This is mine, makes me cringe to be honest but there it is. Our school was extremely preppy in case you couldn't tell!

Love your photo StephanieLynn!

I am at our Jersey shore house so no yearbooks here. And I honestly have no clue where that would be but will search our home library when we return mid October. However while I don't have my yearbook photo I do have a photo of when I was 16/17 so during my freshman year of college. I will add that in high school I had a perm (that was before my hair turned mysteriously curly when I hit my mid twenties LOL) as my hair used to be stick straight. So this photo is when the perm grew out and I cut my hair short. So not representative of my high school years but as close as I can get to sharing with you while we are at the beach house. And I was still a (mid) teenager so hope I get credit for sharing.

It's in black and white because it was so long ago...before color photos.
(Sigh... my lashes used to be so lovely and thick and long and natural...never even tried mascara before my late 20s).

Of course you get bonus points too! Look at how cute you were (and still are). I love that you share so many pictures, saw the ones of your wedding and they are so beautiful. Hope you are having a nice relaxing time at the beach house!

Reverse discrimination? Careful DF, we don't want to hit Troll Bingo too early. Your wife might drag you out of the den and make you do some work!

I was pretty wild in high school- by the time I was 16, I was in a band with guys 15 years older than me, and playing in bars. I was extremely lucky to have been accepted at The High School of Music and Art. It was a very liberal school at the time- they tolerated people like me- I did graduate. That's my year book picture. Some of my classmates included Bella Fleck, and Steve Jordan .
I grew up in Queens, and at the time M&A was smack in the middle of Harlem. It was an amazing experience.

Dude that is awesome and that pic is great (handsome) but now I can't get Inigo Montoya out of my head.

Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

redwood66,- that's inconceivable. Does anybody want a Peanut?

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

BTW my BIL loves Bela Fleck the banjoist. You went to school with him? BIL plays upright base in a rockabilly style band. He also plays guitar.

I did indeed red. We were friends- he was a shy guy.
At the time he hadn't even started playing banjo- he played guitar.

Honestly, I spent a lot of time dumbing myself down to fit in. I remember flipping through Vogue magazine just hanging out in my room with a girlfriend as teenagers, and I'll never forget her saying "omg that's so ugly, who would ever wear that?" Tiny, tiny speck in the haystack of hayseeds who were not interested in any world outside of the one in which they were raised.

I have attended two high school reunions now. I had a great time at both. Years after high school, one of my classmates (a guy who did indeed make it out of that godforsaken place and became an engineer) took me on a date, and said "I had no idea you were this smart." Oof. The hell I would've caught back in the day if most of them knew what I was thinking about them. I played the catch-more-flies-with-honey game, though, and bided my time. Fortunately, there was a small population in our class of 360 that did have ambition and brains and creativity, and we were each other's means of survival.

I didn't party in high school, save for the couple vacations a year we'd take to the same town in FL, with some locals with whom I still stay in touch. I didn't date anyone I went to school with. Would go to dances and ditch them after. My college roommate used to say I should've been a man, whatever that meant. I think she was trying to say I had a rather cavalier attitude towards boys/men.

I have no idea where my yearbooks (2/4) are. I don't even remember what my senior portrait looked like, headshot-wise. I remember my mother going to the photographer and yelling at him in his studio for taking sexy shots of me and other girls in our class. I was so embarrassed, but in hindsight she was right to do so. The guy was a perv. Here's a pic from when I was 17-ish, I think. I had a raging ED and thought I was SO FAT. I would like to go back in time and slap myself.
