Hi all - I'm trying to figure out what to do for a wedding band with my e-ring, and could use some advice. Here's a top and side photo:

So my dilemma is that we are in the middle of wedding planning, and I'm feeling like we're hemorrhaging money. So do I keep the w-band expense low by buying a plain platinum band to be worn next to my e-ring? Can I find a band that won't hide the details I love underneath (need to try one on to see - does anyone have insight here?). I could buy the matching band (quote was $1200 last year), but it also hides the details underneath.

I also started considering wearing the band on my right hand, and if so...I hope KCoursolle doesn't mind, but my first thing would be to have WF replicate hers. I think its way out of my budget (and I wonder about the quality of other bands I see on line that *might* be in budget). I think if I go the plain band route, I might be able to convince then-hubby in some years to spring for this (I'll time it conveniently after he finally gets his new Breitling

)

Or do I consider the diamonds for an eternity ring from WF?

Does anyone have any other ideas? I feel like I'm missing something. Thanks!

MrsS, thanks so much, I still can''t get the photos to post correctly!

This ring style really can use a fitted wedding band much more than some other styles. It is very attractive, but using a non-fitted band will rub on the metal holding the diamonds and also be abraded by the diamonds hitting the wedding ring. It would not be a great idea to use a straight ring for long although for a few months maybe it would be okay. Certainly, for the ceremony you can use a plain, narrow band. If the budget allows, in a few months, get a fitted ring made or have a jeweler tack solder the plain ring to the base of the engagement ring so there is no rubbing and extra damage.

I love your ring! The side view is just so gorgeous that I agree it would be a shame to put something there that would obscure, not to mention if you did a band with diamonds on the sides you might risk the stones abrading against each other. I think the idea of a ring like kcoursolle''s a wonderful. You can wear it on your right hand with your e-ring on your left, or you could opt to just wear a band like K''s alone on your left hand, so you''ll have options.

I''ve got to agree with DJ here - my first thought was not to cover up that gorgeous side view.

Thanks Oldminer! So from your perspective, would you choose the matching band that Saturn says won''t cause issues with the e-ring over a plain band?

And if I did the plain band and tacked it at the bottom...how hard is it to untack it? I don''t love the idea of soldering them together permanently.

I do like this idea too and then you wouldn''t have to worry at all about any possible damage to your e-ring.

Thanks! I am slightly embarrassed to admit that I look at the side view quite often (I work at a computer all day!)

Would it be weird to wear the band on the other side of my ering? I know tradition says closer to the heart/vein thing...

Deco''s band is gorgeous, but she mentioned in my recent thread where I was asking about wearing my w-ring with my e-ring that she has noticed some wear where the rings rub together. Just want to throw that out there if it''s a concern for you.

I look at my side view ALL DAY LONG!!! That''s one of the things that I''ve come to love about my ring; even though I didn''t really care that much in the beginning when I was picking a setting, now I am really glad that I have such an ornate side view because, like you, I see it from the perspective of looking down at my keyboard or my mouse constantly.

I''ve seen several people recently wearing the wedding band on the other side of the engagement ring, so it wouldn''t be weird. But would the metal rub together and ruin that side of the ring?

True, true. I think that would only work if I soldered them together. Does anyone know how hard it is to unsolder them once we saved up for the real deal?

You should take a look at the matching band that is said to be properly fitted not to create damage. Buy it ONLY if you really like it, but make a mental note of why it fits so well, so that you could have one made to order with a different style you prefer at some later time. The visible design has to work around the necessary shaping of the ring to make it fit correctly. Once you have a handle on this "necessary" shape, then many designs are very possible.

A wedding ring tacked to the base of the engagement ring is easy to untack. It does not need to cause any permanent mark or damage although some jewelers work fast and dirty instead of clean and neat. If you find a jeweler who will pay attention to your request to make it removeable without doing any damage, it should be an easy job to tack and later untack. Make sure you have a person who you can communicate with and GET IT IN WRITING that there is "not to be any residual damage on removal as it is requested and understood to be temporary".

If Saturn makes a matching band, i think you should consider it if you are wanting to wear 2 rings together. Saturn makes a lot of curved bands, do you know if the match to your ring is curved? that would probalby take care of the issue of the rubbing.

Hi Piccola!

I hope you will have a second to check in on my thread re: bezel pendants... your name is in the title (on Rocky Talky).

Just wanted to say your e-ring is beautiful. If it were me, I''d want the matching band and get it curved if need be to avoid damage.

If money is tight right now, I''d get a wide stand alone WG band for right now (maybe 4 or 5 mm) which I think would be about $200. I''d wear it on the left and your e-ring on the right. Then, when you feel the time is right, get the matching band, wear your set on the left, and your wide band on the right (or not wear the plain band day to day) You can enjoy that plain band for traveling and those other times when you don''t want to wear your set but want to look married.

Saturn''s matching band is straight...and I specifically asked Saturn if wearing them together would cause any issues for either ring, and they said no. Not that I distrust them or anything, but I just wonder if it really would or not. I should go to the shop that has the matching one and try them on again to get a better look.

Thanks! What tough decisions we have to make! hehe

What about a plain wedding band with milgraining? That way it matches your band, has a low profile that doesn''t obstruct the gorgeous side view!

http://www.thefacetscollection.com/item.cfm?item_id=1919 The Facets Collection makes a beautiful plain wedding band!

Exactly - that''s the one I''d consider (either plain or milligrained) but I don''t like the idea of soldering them together, even if temporary.

I also thought about a thick band to wear alone on the other hand too...

Thanks Oldminer! Perfect verbiage to arm myself with if I go that route.

holy smokes, your stone and setting are gorgeous!!!

This *does* sound familiar

... so I''ll weigh in too ...

a) my w-band is VERY low set, so it doesn''t block the "pretty" part of my e-ring''s side view. HOWEVER

b) the "pretty part" or ONE of the "pretty parts" of your side view is EXACTLY where any wedding band, no matter HOW LOW set ... would block.

Because of that -- I might consider wearing it on the other hand so you can continue to enjoy it "fancy free".

BTW: My two rings do rub together a bit -- but not enough that it bothers me. The more textured e-ring has scratched the polished surface on the SIDE of my wedding band .. but it''s the side that doesn''t show. Also - it''s very light & could be easily polished out. Any wedding band worn next to yours will probably suffer the same fate because of the milligrained bezels around the stones in the undercarrage of your e-ring. Something to consider too.

ALWAYS love a chance to see pix of your ring!!!

Deco - thanks for the compliments!! I'll decide after I try on a few bands (hopefully this weekend), but I'm leaning towards getting something totally freestanding and wearing it on the other hand just to avoid all the worry and so I can see all my little details.

Funny how 11 months changes your mind - at the time we got engaged I was dead set on finding a flush wedding set to wear together, so that meant buying the matching Saturn ring!

So...if I wear them on different hands, is there some tradition over which hand gets the band vs the e-ring? I guess I'm leaning toweards e-ring on left hand since that's where its been for a year, and w-band on the right...

Thanks everyone!!

Hi Picco-

If you are still thinking about a w-band to sit with your e-ring, how about something like this- http://www.tias.com/9207/PictPage/1922356173.html

Its super-thin, so wont block the side-view of your ring, and the step cut baguettes will look FAB with your asscher!!

No matter what you choose, it will be gorgeous, I just love your e-ring!!

Good luck!!!

I think a thin pave band with a similar leaf pattern similar to the leaves on the gallery of your ring would be lovely!

I personally dont think you need a band, your ring is gorgeous!!!!
