I love this too PP. If I were to do it all again, I would love to live in a 60''s modern. But with all that glass, and our frozen tundra winters, I cannot even fathom the energy bills
If we're speaking of pure architectural admiration, then Frank Lloyd Wright (especially Fallingwater) wins by a mile. I grew up loving architecture because of his houses, and seeing Fallingwater in person was almost a religious experience for me. What an incredible house!
If we're talking about houses that I have at least a slim hope of living in one day
, then my love is conversions. Here in the UK, old farmhouses, school houses, stables, churches, banks, windmills--you name it, really--are bought and converted into funky, beautiful houses that retain the period features of the original use of the building. They are utterly charming and often end up with large, open plan living spaces, rather than the cramped rooms of similarly-aged cottages (which are equal in charm but not usability, in my opinion). They are gorgeous! Maybe one day....
I''ve always really loved Georgians but I also love NY / warehouse conversion lofts. I just basically love anything that''s spacious and has high ceilings.
These past few years, I''ve also grown to love modern houses with lots of glass and double height ceilings.
