These melee diamonds are in a ring I have, and they are so beautiful and sparkly that I’m curious what type/cut they may be. I’ve tried to snap as good a pic as I can through my loupe in hopes it helps to show them well enough to determine. Any ideas?

Do single cuts need to have an open back/underneath in order to perform well, or would/do they perform as well if they are - say - burnish set?

Well cut single cuts are very bright and beautiful, and like a well cut round, rely on light entering the top of the diamond for their bright beauty.

Thank you SOO much, @Wink . So having the space underneath the melee would only serve to enable easier cleaning and wouldn’t really impact performance (positively or negatively)?

I have single cuts in my watch, with only light entering from the top. They are beautiful!

You are correct.
