What to do with two diamond sets?

Add me to the list of marquise converts!! That is one gorgeous ring (and the round is nothing to sneeze at either!!!)...

Wow!! Thanks for sharing!

I work with my hands [artist] and live in a rural community where a stone looking like this probably came from the bubble gum machine at Walmart, so I would like to reset the stone in a less glam way/more utilitarian, perhaps in a lower profile wire basket setting. I want it to be very secure...but now that I've taken the photos I can see that I could only go maybe a mm lower.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Your town sounds like mine, lol.

If I had a stone that size I wanted to wear, I would put it in a Sholdt semi-bezel. http://www.sholdtdesign.com/Vashon/R379.htm

I know, if I lived in Naples, Fl where these stones were worn, I would have the sympathy of the woman with "stones of consequence" =)

If I wear them here, everyone assumes they are CZs

Thanks for turning me on to Sholdt. I love the plain lines and elegance. Now to surf their website in ernest.

Your Marquise ring is stunning and I do hope you think about keeping it they are slowly making a comeback at the moment..... I do however think that people are either Marquise lovers or they are not and there is no middle ground with this type of cut, wear it around a bit and see how you feel about it and if it is still ho hum then perhaps you should sell it and buy your dream stone.

I think you would be crazy to give up the Tiffany ring. 1) too much sentiment and 2) if you can track the original documentation of the ring regardless of their insane prices then it will be worth more money and they will also then be willing to upgrade the setting for you, if you desire. It looks stunning on your finger, classically elegant.

I'd definitely be thinking about getting the documentation that goes with it and either putting it away and keeping it as a family heirloom or wearing it and enjoying it as is, or getting it reset by Tiffany to something that suits your lifestyle so that you can wear it and love it. Pulling apart and re-setting a Tiffany piece into a non Tiffany setting IMHO will decrease its value by a substantial amount, which is something well worth considering.

I would keep everything exactly as it is! I probably wouldn't say that about many inherited pieces I've seen but these are both spectacular! The Tiffany ring I absolutely would leave intact - what could be safer than a six prong mounting?

Beautiful - just beautiful! I love it all! If you're ever so inclined, please take some pictures of these rings outside - would love to see them in sunlight! Do you have any idea how big either of the center stones are?
Hi MissGotRocks. If the sun ever comes out here again I'll take some photos. The round is 2.27ct and the Marquise is 2.33 with 0.78 trillions tcw. I had to smile when I discovered that the Marquise was a little bigger. Mom remarried after Dad died and I have to wonder if my Step-Dad was upstaging my Dad : )

Sadly, I had the round Tiffany set sized this past week and they ruined the outer prongs on the wedding band. I've posted a thread on what to do now.
