i have an old diamond, can''t decide if i should match another diamond to make stud earrings ( should i spend the money on another (large table diamond?)?? or should i make it a pendant ( where can i find design ideas?)

the diamond is non GIA

round brilliant
1.24 carat
measurements 7.12-7.14x4.oom
depth 56.1%
table 63%
polish sym: very good
color F (i doubt it)
vvs1

any comments?

I'm liking the whiteflash bezel pendants that are around at the moment, so I'd put it in one of those I think

ETA: Like CWJ's pretty here - link

I think it would look awesome as a nose piercing diamond. That way you don't need to buy a matching side. You would truely be ICEY!

I vote for the Whiteflash bezel set pendant too - I think they are beautiful.

Your diamond is a lovely size and just perfect for a stunning pendant.

I think it would look great in the bezel pendant! I love mine. But its not the stock bezel at WF, its a full bezel shaved down. I was concerned about the mickey mouse ears, because in everybodys pictures they look so big, but in real life I can''t tell them from the links in the chain (looking w/old eyes). I did ask for small ones.
Hope this helps.

another option is to sell it for upgrade. the diamond is not GIA and i am not buying the new diamond from the original store, what % discount do you think is reasonable?

the new diamond store says he usually gives 100% for GIA upgrade bought at his store, or 15% off rapaport for GIA returns for diamonds bought at his store. he''s willing to buy my diamond but what do you think is a reasonable price% discount?

thanks everyone

Just curious Wawa, have you reversed the depth and table measurements?

no i did not, the table is huge, i bought it because it looked big!!! didn''t know better

I don''t know the answer because my original F color 1 ct. diamond is also sitting in a drawer! Since learning about ideal cut stones and owning some, I just don''t want to use that stone for a piece of jewery! My thought is to give it to one of my kids when they decide to get engaged or else make a pendant for one of them since they are not interested in diamond cut!

I like the suggestion of a bezel set pendant. It would be very nice.

If you really are unhappy with your stone you can get it recut. I had a stone with a huge girdle and a lousy cut all around that really bothered me. For several hundred dollars I had it recut. It lost some of its weight but it''s such an improvement I don''t miss the old cut at all. Then I had it set in a WF pendant. It''s not easy to resell a stone. It wasn''t very difficult at all to get mine recut.

I vote for putting it into a pendant. I have the halo pendant from WF, it''s a great design, thanks to Allison D.

maybe you can get it re-cut by 8*?
I don''t know much about this, but read somewhere before that you can do this. Then you would have a beautifully performing super-ideal diamond that you can put into a pendant.

There are so many great things you can do with a round brilliant diamond. Why not a right hand ring? I wouldn''t suggest buying another diamond for studs, though. A pendant is a good idea too, but what will you wear the most? Make sure whatever you decide to do with it, you enjoy it and wear it everyday.

Let us know what you decide.

having it recut is a great idea. i''ll look into it.
i like a setting from danhov , is danhov very good quality and worth the price???
a lot of designers are listed in pricescope resources ... which designers do you think have the best quality settings?

thanks

I think Danhov is fine. You might want to take a look at Pearlman''s site, too, since they carry so many designers.
