What to buy next... Choice of three. Help!

Not a huge dilemma but I'd love some enabling or guidance

Of course, I have diamond fever and I'm ready to make a new purchase. My budget is modest.

Do I buy:

1. A lovely K colour Asscher of amazing ratio at .48 ct. I'm thinking of making it into a pinky ring in 18K gold, or

2. An Old Miner of around .5 to .8 ct and I'm open to low colours. Also considering one already in an antique setting.

OR

3. An ACA of around .3/.4ct and J or K colour. I'll also turn this into a cute pinky ring.

I know it's a matter of personal taste, and I'll probably end up getting them all this year, but love to hear what other people would jump on first. Is one option better in the long run than the others? An ACA I know is a good choice in case I want to upgrade later. But those old miners... And Asschers...

I would probably be the most tempted by an amazing Asscher, unless the OMC's vintage setting was beyond amazing.

Stepcuts always get my vote but 0.48ct will be, what, 4-4.5mm? That is not large, and it can be hard to see the steps / facet patterning in that size

I ordered some Berricle 5mm asschers for the good lady for a cheap present - they are diddy! lol

The superideals do perform very well in all sizes, so a 0.4ct would punch above its weight

If you like chunkier faceting, you could consider AVRs or AVCs from Rhino - I'm not sure how small he goes, or costs, but he does also offer them in MMD... lol

I think, personally speaking, I'd be tempted by a larger, lower colour vintage stone with some cool character

For a pinky ring, I would probably go for the old miner.

Although I prefer step cuts, I prefer ECs and carré cuts over Asschers in diamonds.

Not too kind on MRB in rings.

Personal choice and all that.

It comes down to personal choice and I need photos to decide.
They all sound beautiful. Just depends what *you* love and want to wear.

Without any photos the OMC with the antique setting is calling my name most strongly compared to the other choices but with photos I might change my mind.

A lot of old mines are wonky and deep...I guess I would need to see the specific stone you're talking about using.

An small ACA...I think these can always be appreciated.

I think it really depends what you're craving. Something old, something stepish or a well cut round brilliant. I think they could all work for
a cute pinky ring so I'm not much help.

Do you think you will wear 3 different pinky rings? I’m only asking because I have several RHRs now which don’t seem to make it out of the jewellery box that often. It’s very easy to end up wanting lots of different things if you’ve been browsing PS regularly! I’d consider saving up the budgets and buying one, big, decent piece that you can wear all the time. IMHO you can’t go wrong with an ACA.

Thank you! Yes, there's a lot of logic in that. I am tempted to just save up for a larger old cut, but knowing me, it won't stop me from wanting the other types of stones... I would probably only make a pinky out of the Asscher as I have two small MRBs that I could make a 3-stone ring out of with the ACA...

Oh I would so love a 2ct Asscher but that's on the wishlist for if I win the lottery. Yes, I think a .48 will be tiny but I just love them. I have only seen two in real life (they are not at all popular in Australia) so I just want one of my own. Crazy I know...

As for OMC, I am pretty forgiving of this cut as I just love the old world chunkiness so I don't mind if they aren't perfect. I'm currently on the hunt for one.

Yes, I feel I should wait for the right Asscher closer to 5mm to come along but sometimes you see something and sigh...

Had to good Berricle of course, and wow! Some lovely things there. I could get my larger Asscher fix this way perhaps lol

Ahh Rhino - he's also on the post-lottery win wishlist.... I'm not at all against a MMD and it might make sense to find a lab Asscher.

Just listening to your posts, what I'm hearing is that for the current budget an asscher is what you really want and will also be a ring you continue to wear even if you had other options.

That said, that is the one I'd go for if I were you. It seems to be what your heart desires most, is the rarest or most unique to you and will be something you treasure even if you get other larger stones.

If you have found an awesome Asscher in .5ct size, you could always purchase it now and then create a pair of earring with another one if/when you have the funds for a larger ring diamond

I picked up a 3ct/8mm asscher from Berricle as well and they really are nicely cut - for the low price (what, $40-50 or even less?) you could purchase a pendant and/or ring in that size although a 3ct diamond to replace it will likely never be very cheap, even in MMD lol
