OK I have my diamond and I know she would like just a plain white gold solitaire band. My question is; how thick do I want the band to be? I was thinking 2 mm, 2.5 mm, or 3 mm. Here are the sizes of the diamond and her finger.

Diamond - Round Cut
Measurements - 6.99 - 7.02 x 4.37 mm
Ring finger - Size 6

Any suggestions would be very appreciated, thank you.

Hi Jeff,

Its really down to personal preference, I particularly like a thin band as I think it helps the diamond '' pop'' more, so its normally 2mm for me, do you have a jeweller conveniently located so you could look at the various band thicknesses in person?

My ring has a 2mm flat shank and I like it a lot. I wear a size 7 and have short fingers. 3 mm is also nice, but it is a little more substantial. Really, I don''t think you can go wrong with any of those. None of those are extremes 1.5 would be extremely thin, 3.5 plus looks thick....for my mind though you have three great options, pick which one you like

I like 2mm bands for the reasons Lorelei stated.

If I was always going to wear the wedding and engagement ring together I would say 2mm. But if I wanted to wear the wedding ring alone sometimes, I would go with 3mm.

Hi Jeff,
I agree with visiting your jeweler and taking a look. Sometimes I will suggest the 3mm to a customer so they can see the ring complete. If its still to wide I will shave it down while they watch to get the exact width they are comfortable with.

2 mm. The one that I have now tapers from 2.5 - 3 mm, and I wish it were thinner.

I''m a size 6 and tried on several different band widths. I prefer the 2mm but again it depends on the person who would be wearing it.

I''ve worn a 2.5 mm gold band for many years. Works for me.

My e-ring is a WG solitaire and tapers from 2.5mm at the back to 2.0mm at the front. I`m very happy with this width and would recommend it.

I think it depends on both finger size and what type of finger you have at that size.

One of my best friends has positivly skeletal size 6 fingers. Thin, dainty little bands look best on her - medium-thick bands just completely overwhelm her fingers and look very out of place, despite the fact that she's very tall.

Another friend has stockier size 5 fingers that taper from base to tip. She must size her rings tightly enough to stay on her finger rather than going by knuckle-size, and thin bands tend to pinch in - thicker bands look much better suited.

My Ering shank is 3mm. It looks and feels great when worn alone, but since I'm going to be wearing a wband I rather wish I'd gone with a thinner band - though not enough to do anything about it
