What size?

I''m trying to decide on a stone for an e-ring I''m about to purchase and I don''t know what size is appropriate. I have found three stones, one is 1.2 one''s 1.5 and the last is 1.38. They are all great looking and I''m trying to decide between the three of them. I really like the 1.38 but the more I think about it the more I think it may be too big/ostentatious. I know people on here are prone to say there''s no such thing as too big, but she has around a size 5 or 5.5 finger and is only 23 and I''m not sure a stone that large is appropriate. What do others think?

I''m 23 and have a size 5 finger. My diamond is a .8 carat princess cut right now, but I would LOVE to have a 1.3, 1.5.. I personally do not think that is too big at all.

I don''t think just over 1 carat would seem to big in general for someone with a size 5 finger. Locally that would be on the larger side of what people wear, but around here it wouldn''t be ostentatious at all.

I think DSS (diamond shrinkage syndrom). Go for the 1.38 if it is a good stone. You wont have to worry about
upgrading anytime soon (maybe never!)

Once on the finger and away from the other stones, I wonder if the diff between 1.2, 1.38, 1.5 is going to be that noticeable. So, I would go for the best cut of the 3. If you can afford it, IMO none of them are too large and perhaps it''ll give her "bragging rights" if hers is larger than the "norm" in your area

That leads me to me next question. THere''s about a $1,000 difference between the 1.38 and the 1.25/1.2. All else being equal would you guys say it''s not worth paying for the size?

If you are sure the diamonds are all well cut and you like the 1.38 the best I''d go for it. If that diamond "speaks" to you more and you can swing the extra $1000 I''d just get it (or see if the vendor can work with you a little). If you are buying from a PS vendor there are usually PS discount and wire transfer discounts that can shave a little off the price...

Yes, and no. If you feel 1.2 ct is the right size, but don''t want any regrets later, make sure your jeweler has a lenient(without having to spend double) upgrade policy.
If you feel spending the extra $1000 would make more sense later down the road, then do that. Or just splurge and get the 1.38! Hope i didn''t confuse you.

I would go for the stone you like the best, and don''t worry about the size. I think you can''t go wrong with ''bigger the better'' attitude when purchasing an e-ring.
Knocking her socks off is a good thing, but ultimately buying a stone you love is the best idea.

I''d get the one you like the best. I think that size is fine on a 5.5 finger.
