What size stone should I get?

Hello everyone,
:wavey:

This is my first time starting a thread in any forum. Like most, I have been addicted to Pricescope and looking at all the stunning rings. My BF and I have discussed marriage for a couple months now and are currently in search for the perfect ring that reflects our relationship and style. We both like simplicity and elegance. I have to say that my BF is awesome because he has allowed me to research and look for the ring that I want; however, he wants to surprise me of when, where, and how he will propose. Therefore, for a couple of months now I have been looking through the internet and stores for the perfect ring. I so enjoyed going through Pricescope and looking at all the lovely rings posted (especially hand shots as it gives it a great feel of what it looks like). After so many months of searching, we decided on a custom ring. I have chosen moissanite because the stone is beautiful, strong, and carries a great price. I am the type of person that doesn’t care about whether the stone is a diamond, sapphire, ruby, or any other gem and the investment value its carries. I feel all stones are beautiful, especially with the right setting.

My big decision is what size center stone to choose. I have a size 4 ring size and my fingers are long and slender. Therefore, big and flashy rings don’t look well on my finger (or so that is how I feel when I put them on). With that said, I want a respectable stone. Without giving out too much on the design of the ring (as I would like to post it later on this forum), the band on the solitaire will have a design (more like a texture). The center stone is the only stone that will be on the ring. Because of this, I was wondering which size is better for a simple solitaire ring: a 6.5mm (1 carat size) or a 7mm (1.4ct)?

I have seen both sizes of the stone (loose) and like the 7mm. However, after thinking about it, I wonder when the stone is set on the ring if it will look bigger because of the setting – even though the setting is simple and has not accent (halo).
Has anyone been through this? Any thoughts or opinion?

Can you please post pictures of your 1ct - 1.5ct ring in hand shots mood (preferably solitaire) so I can see them and get a feel for what they look like?
Thanks!

Either size would look good on size 4 (I'm 4.5). You should post over on "Lab-created" and you'll probably get some responses. Best of luck!

This is NOT my ring... I REPEAT! THIS IS NOT MY RING!

I tried on some 1ish carat really included, poorly cut diamonds on and took some pictures just looking at size. My finger is a 4.25 and the diamond is just under 6.5mm I believe. Its my understanding that with a better cut diamond the light return will be substantially improved and the stone will look larger!

lin_ny,

Thank you for responding. Your ring is beautiful. Everytime I see a round stone I fall in love. Then I put it on and I don't like the way it looks on my finger.

Thank you and congrats on your beautiful ring.

LOL. She posted in caps that this is not her ring. Sorry, I laughed out loud for this one!

But OP, we're not allowed to discuss simulants here on PS, sorry.
But if it's just dimensions you're curious about, I'll give you the same advice I gave Linny before her trip to take that photo of that awful ring

If you can't get to a jewelry store,
cut out paper into the dimensions you're thinking about.

It looks silly, yes, but it works for a great visual.

Once again, thanks pandabee! I can never make a paper ring this precise!

You can cut out different shapes, different dimensions, whatever. Make sure you're using a ruler so that you know exactly what dimensions you're "trying on".
Also remember, the paper is sitting flat on your finger, so a real stone that is sitting off your finger will appear larger, since it's closer to the eye.

OR. Just go to a maul jewelry store to try stones on. Don't ask them about "carat weight", since they usually carry poppers that have weird depths. Ask for the dimensions. Don't fall in love with anything, since everything looks pretty and super sparkly under their halogen lights. Do the trip just for research for dimensions on your finger. You can also try different shapes, too.

 Part of me feels bad if someone here has a heavily included diamond but seriously... it was so ugly I couldn't have people thinking that was mine

So pookie, I'm hoping to god you don't actually think that stone is on the better performing side. ;))
That's why I said to be weary of pushy sales people and those awesome overhead halogen lights when you go into stores.

The lighting couldn't even save this one. :knockout:
